I hauled grain for 9 years in the typical grain-hauling large car....Peterbilt/Catapillar/15 speed. I now drive a 65 mph truck. I don't worry about where the cops are, but I like to know anyway. I run a lot of 2 lane (regional driver) with 55 mph speed limits, and speed zones in all the towns. Nobody gives bear reports much on these roads anymore either and this where you are apt to get a big ol' ticket. Nobody talks anymore because of the smart mouth, idiot, Rambo types that seem to always be on there to play the wise guy. You can't even get a radio check anymore without somebody mouthing off. Who wants to deal with that crap??
Just for fun:

Have "smokey reports" gone out of style?

They can speed in MI . The truck speed limit is 60 and I've seen plenty of trucks exceeding that but never seen any stopped for speeding .Last edited: Jul 14, 2013

Been a bit since I was up there. But, I thought it was 60 last time up there.
Guess I must have been speeding.Last edited: Jul 14, 2013

You're right. I'll edit the post. Thanks

This I attribute to newer truck drivers who seem to be afraid of using a CB radio! The last company I drove for was full of newbies who never gave out a smokey report, and I cannot tell you just how POed I became everyday.
Most of the other drivers that I would come across in the run of my day were guys that I had run with many times before. We always gave each other bear reports, as that is the courteous and common thing to do among veteran drivers.
I think that we need to educate these new drivers as to exactly what that CB is for--information! (And clean entertainment as well.) Whether it be accidents, weather, and/or bear reports, etc. Anything that will help fellow truckers get through their days and night safely and unscathed!
The way I see it, if you let a brother trucker drive into a bears jaws and you didnt give him or her a heads-up then you are not a trucker in my book! You cannot be trusted as such either. -
last time i had mine on i listened to a conversation about a colonostipy {guess i spelled that right} while this was going on {the conversation not the operation
} i passed one full grown in the other lane with a 4 wheeler on the side, a full grown in the weeds to the right of my lane, and 2 smokies sitting in the woods in the median strip...the conversation on channel 19, which should of been on channel 2, didn't leave room for any warnings from other truckers about all the ''heat'' in the area....after passing the 2 in the median i decided to voice a few warnings to which i got #####ed at for interupting their conversation...i guess if you are a company driver, working by the hour, and/or driving a truck that will only go 64 mph, bears/smokey/the law doesnt bother you...if you are making the great sum of 34 cents a mile and you are happy with only driving 200 miles per day, well, the same...but there are alot of us out there that really work, and rely on the reports on number 19, so if it doesnt matter at all to you then please take your b/s conversations about your backside, your wifes sister, your lawnmower, your rants, whining, crying, etc to another channel much more suited to such bull as there will be no one else there to hear the crap....
Unfortunate Son and TheDude1969 Thank this. -
"dixieworkx"--AMEN!! and say it again! You are correct on that one. I have run into the same. All I do is reach over and turn the burner up on my big radio!

Wonder what ol' "C.W.McCall" Bill Fries thinks of this as I guess he still travels around in his motor home...
-
Probably wonders why so many are too afraid, or just too lazy to hit the CB with a report!
-
I think it not only has become laziness, but so many knuckleheads wanna start a war of words so many people dont run with them on anymore. I keep it on, but I run the gain low to only hear amile or a lil more. I was taught to drive old school, and that is how I will always be.
