wow,to be honest there are mixed felling here in a big way, here's my take on it. no where here did anybody mention winter driving and the fact thats it's impossible in the winter due to road condition's accident and many other delay's,that one would be able to drive 2500 miles in a week.dont kid your self ,and to the new driver you really have to think about it,you will have no life,no money,no friends and long hours every day till you let go of the possibility to make a living being a new driver in canada.seriously . i drove vancouver to alberta and saskatoon for two years being paid by trip,850.00 before taxes and road expenses left me with maybe 400,00 a week for 7 days,do the math.tie like a slave to a truck that cant make money is not a good life, winter driving is hard and dangerous at times, you butt is on the line, greedy dispatchers, angry shipper and receivers, why in the world would you want to drive for a lousy .18 a mile mc donnalds would pay better for an 8 hour day with benefits and free lunch and home every night.go back to school learn a trade get a career is my advice.i gave up the trucking dream 5 years ago, recently i took it up again,i lasted 2 weeks till my first pay check, hurry up and wait, wait wait maybe if you wait till your 100 years old it will pay,but it is the way it is.and learn to break the law every time you fill in your log book,oh ya.if you dont do it you wont get good hauls, the dispatcher will see to it.

65 MPH in Canada. .18CPM x 65 MPH is $11.70 an hour at TOP SPEED. We all know that an average day in a 65 MPH truck is really about 600 miles per day. $108 per day for a 14 hour day is $7.71 per hour.
Minimum wage is $8.75 i believe. Get two jobs flipping burgers, be home every night and make more money.
Oh, and with your first paycheck..................
Go buy a calculator. -

I was being generous. Assuming you could AVERAGE 55 MPH (i said top speed 65). And assuming min wage was about 8 bucks (I have no idea what it is because I literally NEVER worked for minimum wage in my life). So thanks for helping me with my argument that the money you are seeking is way less than minimum wage.
"big hauler my butt"? What does that mean? Should i try to convince you with pictures and my knowledge that I have been doing OS/OW for 25 years? Sorry, winning an argument on the internet is like winning a race in the special olympics... Everyone thinks they won and even if you really do win, you still only beat a "special person". -
average speed mountain driving in the summer here is 75-80 kms an hour, winter considerably less depending on road conditions, ice snow accidents,55mph is 90kms and hour, impossible unless your speeding, like i say good job if one like to break the law to make money, and yes as it may be the money is better with over sise loads and heavy hauling, but that wasnt the case here ,we where talking about a new driver asking a question in order for him to make an educated guess to help him make a decision as to his situation, never did we talked about heavy haulers and how much they make, but i know that if you never had a poor paying job in your life, you must be special. many of us started from much more humble beginnings and are not ashame to say it.further more, driving time in the is 14 but only with 11 driving.and 1/2 break after 8 hours of drive time,i dont know how it's possible to drive any more without breaking the law,i did say that. http://myfox8.com/2013/06/24/new-truck-driver-regulations-to-take-effect/ why would they say this if it's not true.the new driver has much to learn, and at .18 cents a mile you and i both know he's gona be poor.that was the topic.
-
i also beleive it's wrong to tell a new driver he can drive 55-65 average speed, not respecting drive hours permited, and taking into cosideration winter mountain driving, there are so many accidents with commercial trucks,if anything older season drivers as yourself should encourage safety and training before money, but a man still has to make a living and one must be fair about helping him reach his goals safely.
