ok so my license was suspended once in my life time, I was 16 years old and it was suspended due to unpaid tickets. I wasnt able to pay the tickets on my own until last month. I am now 21 and the suspension lasted 5 years and some months. crazy!! all because i didnt have money to pay it. Well i have a valid license now and i only got one ticket as an adult and thats a seat belt violation in which i was the passenger of the vehicle, everything else was from when i was under 18. Anyways i only had my license for 2 months now and i was just curious so i went to the DMV and had them run my name and they said that "I AM ELIGIBLE" to get my CDL. Is it possible to get a job? anywhere? if i were to do 160 hours in trucking school? or if not how long would i have to wait?
one more thing i need to mention, i got a possession of marijuana charge when i was 18 years old, 3 days after my birthday. so next month that misdemeanor charge will be 4 years old.
i really want to do trucking so im willing to get poor pay and just rack up on experience at the same time for maybe a year?
any ideas?
Thanks in advance. Im new to the forum
Will i be able to get job? pls help

That drug charge is the problem, and it's a big one.
You might call around and speak to some recruiters, but honestly... you're going to have to put some distance between you and that drug charge.
I wouldn't give up, but I think your looking at five years minimum for most companies.
Good luck.pattyj and Ghost Ryder Thank this. -
You will need to hold a valid license for at least 3 years before most companies will consider hiring you, and those 3 years need to be accident and ticket free if you want to remain marketable.
The drug charge will be a huge problem for you.
That being said, the OTR mega's won't hire anyone under 25 for insurance reasons, so you still need 4 more years. If you can keep your nose clean for those 4 years, you MIGHT be alright. Emphasis on the MIGHT because of the drug charge. Work on getting that expunged. -
Like Oaker said, the drug charge could be a problem.Looks to me like your mvr record is an active one.May I ask what kind of tickets you received in the past?I would suggest asking recruiters first before spending any money on a school.

You're most likely going to have to wait. If you want, try calling Swift, Werner or CRE.
DO NOT go to CDL school if you don't find a company that says they will accept you. If you are eligible for a license, the school will gladly take your money, but they do not guarantee placement.
Some companies are going to care more about your license suspension than the drug charge. You shoujld definitely, as the other said, look into getting it expunged. I don't see you getting around the suspension issue anyway though, so just put trucking on the back burner for 3 more years. Most companies don't hire till you're 23 anyway.

the possession charge is gonna hurt him .....
-
and HOW did you get suspended at 16??? you JUST got ur DL then....what did you do?
-
If its a misdemeanor drug charge, yes that looks ugly but conversely, i believe some companies will hire people with felony convictions. Definitely try to get the possession charge taken care of, not just for trucking but for all possible future plans. Definitely stay away from the ganja too...
also, your tickets issue sounds ambiguous. Are these parking, speeding or reckless driving tickets? I don't think any company will really care if you had a parking ticket at the age of 16. Speeding? Eh... would probably depend if it was below or above 20mph over the limit. Reckless driving? Yeah that might be a problem. The one issue I don't think you considered is the fact it took five years to pay outstanding tickets from the ripe age of 16 (and how in the world did you rack up that much money in fines that it wasn't possible to pay it back sooner?). How did you get these tickets? Also, did you get these tickets in one incident or did it occur through several occasions? That's another big thing, if you demonstrated you were terrible enough at driving to get fined for it several times (when you should've learned to drive better/be more conscious), that can create issues. But of course if all of your tickets were from just one incident, then that's a lot better. Lastly, sorry to seem invasive and snide, but how were you not able to pay for these tickets if you were able to pay for a car, pay for the license, pay for the insurance, and pay for the gas? -
I'm curious how you got a 5 year suspension for unpaid tickets, especially at only 16. Most states expunge your record when you turn 18, so at longest you should have got it back then. Heck, even DUIs don't carry that big of a suspension.
Seems more to this story and I'm sure a trucking company would find out the 'more'.
