Yeah, you're probably right. I haven't had to deal with too many of those Radio Rambo's, but when I have I usually do a pretty good job of shutting them down. Those types are usually pretty lite in the brain cavity and it usually doesn't take much.
Plus, usually (like I saw at an Indy truckstop a few years ago) the Radio Rambo's get what is coming to them. This motor-mouth got the living **** beat out of him for 10 minutes! I'm talkin' missing teeth and a broken jaw. My guess is that he has now changed his ways.
Have "smokey reports" gone out of style?

I followed a guy from Detroit to Chicago who was giving out bear reports every 5 minutes. funny thing was we were both running 55 mph.... Is it really necessary when you're not speeding ? I thought it was annoying really.
-
Well, the bear reports aren't for you in that case, they are for the other drivers that just may be pushing a bit.rjones56 Thanks this.

so true unfortunate son..i need the reports..i like to know when to ease up, when a brake check/accident is just over the next rise...these days you can not run like you used to, which was pretty much all out....now a few miles per hour over and your pulled....used to the trucker was seen by the powers that be as a working man, who was doing his best to make a living...he was also seen as a savior of sorts, as in times past, he was the first to help....anyone remember the days when a motorist broke down, had a blowout, whatever, that put them in the emergency lane, and the first 2 or 3 to stop and help would always be truckers ?...or when, via CB, truckers found out that a highway patrol was chasing a motorist that wouldnt stop, and was driving at crazy speeds, and the truckers would, on their own, completely block the road so the trooper could do his job ?....those days are gone

"dixieworkx"--Every point you made is right on the button! It mainly comes down to a safety issue. Helping others, and knowing what is ahead.
The last company I drove with had a lot of newbie drivers. (Now, don't anyone take that as I am slamming new drivers. Some are good, some not so much.) Anyway, these drivers didn't use a CB for anything! They treated the CB as if it were a mystery box of evil enchantment or something.
I'm loaded and rolling down a stretch of two-lane hwy, as several of the other company drivers meet me going the other way. Just over a rise (these fools had just passed this situation) there was a farmer on a tractor mowing the shoulder and taking up half my lane! No reports over the CB...nothing! Even at the speed limit, it took all my skills to keep from running over the farmer and his tractor!
Pissed, I brought it up right after to the idiots who failed to give a report. Ones response? "Why get on the radio and tell you about something that you are going to see in less than 30 seconds? If you can't see something that big ahead of you, then you better get your eyes checked!" Needless to say, I took up with him later that day at the yard! The manager sided with me (he was a vet trucker) and busted the lot of them down for such stupidity. "How was he supposed to see over a **** rise? I would have fired you if something would have happened!"Giggles the Original Thanks this. -

Bear Reports (story time)
Back almost 10 yrs ago, there was a massive crash on I75 at Dalton, Georgia. Nearly a hundred vehicles got banged up. about 40 people died. The news media as usual all came out with their cameras to interview the survivors. The 4 wheelers were wimpering, "Oh, it was so horrible. We dont know what happened. Oh God, I am shaking!"
Well, the news media found someone who knew what happened. You guessed it...a trucker. They put this guy on the camera and this son of the south opened my eyes, "THAT STUPID (bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep bleep) STATE TROOPER WAS RUNNING RADAR IN THE FOG! HE HIT THE BLUES AND EVERYONE HIT THE BRAKES!!!!"
Hows that for a Bear Report?
Theres more to Bear Reports than speeding.TheDude1969 Thanks this.
