97 is a better way not near the hills like the Southern part of 5. Plus miss Portland crap. No construction on 97 today I just came up from Cali. Couple of good places to eat on the way up. You can roll 60 no problemo.

The only issue i have with the 20 or 395 is the condition of the road itself...at times it will throw you into the other lane, then bounce you back into yours, then jump you around your own lane..and its not just for a few miles..its like that for 50+ miles...and it can be #### tiring. But, on the plus side...ive only seen two cops out there the past few years..

I always took 97, it's a good road. 2 lanes most of the way. There is a fire that has 97 closed from Golendale, WA (mm 13) to Toppenish,WA (mm61) as of 4:30 this evening. I doubt it'll be closed very long though, with how things usually go up here I would imagine it'll be open tomorrow.

I will have to 2nd what everyone except snowy said. 97 is the way to go. We used to stop at the hot springs (off of 58 heading to 97 from Eugene) in Oakridge all the time, not sure I would want to park my rig there now days though.....................

Too bad Jake's TS isn't in Bend anymore. If you have the chance stop at Pollard Flats that is just past Lake Shasta on I5. Small truck stop, more of a restaurant and MINImart with truck parking. I highly recommend grabbing a bite to eat there. Really good food and great people, an old school diner. But I say your really do need to stop in and use their bathroom, it's great and you'll never forget it. If anyone hasn't been there, you need to if you have the chance.
    Have a safe trip

Jakes Dinner still lives. It's in East Bend off 20.

I thought it all was closed down. That's good news. I'll have to remember that when I roll through there next time. Thanks for the info.

that's just too much 2 lane road for my taste. and factor in the 6 extra hours to drive. to save 130 miles.

the main thing would be the truckstops though. defentily a bonus.
