According to mine, 97 is a little faster (45 minutes) than I5 to I84. But what I'm looking it up on is on my iPhone, not a truck configured GPS. I don't see how it could add 6 hours though.

I have run 97 several times. There is no way it is 6 hours longer than I-5. There are actually less big hills to run on 97 than the I-5. I also highly recommend Jakes in Bend for breakfast.

    truckmiles.com says it's 130 miles shorter but 6 hours.

mapquest says it's 20 miles LONGER and 90 extra minutes.

seems to be a difference of opinion between the 2 sights. LOL.

The best way to know is to check out your own experience and try all alternate routes.. you might even I take moment and open your road atlas. As for myself? I prefer the 97 when going to grandview from the op's location.. best of luck to yah.

Just wanted to add an update to the fire closing hwy 97 in WA. It is closed from mm16 (goldendale WA to I82) The fire is zero percent contained and they are saying the road could be closed for several days. The detour route will be head across the Columbia river into WA on 97 and head east on hwy 14, then North on 241, then west on I82.

I think truckmiles.com is a little skewed. Don't forget, there is always that thing called an Atlas

The problem with routing software, is they don't actually have people drive a road and determine how fast it takes. They simply categorize roads and put a preset 'average speed' for those roads to calculate the time to travel.

US97 does not take 6 hours longer, at all. It's shorter. Less hills. And only a few towns where you have to stop. And in Oregon you get to max out legally at 55 no matter which way you're taking.

horsepower and weight play a big difference in which trucks get there faster.
