    Hi everyone,
I have not been on here in awhile but I have been studying and researching. I do not have a cdl, but I have start dates for Swift and Stevens as starter/training companies. Swift will waive tuition and board due to my veteran status even though I have been out of The Corps for 20 years. It also seems like that being from Columbus Ohio, that I could get home a little more often even if just passing through. I like Stevens equipment better and it seems like their training matches anyone's. The Stevens recruiter also said they're getting solo drivers a minimum of 3000 miles a week. I am sure it happens, but I doubt it's a minimum. I want to make as much as I can as a new guy, and get home once in awhile. If I am not mistaken, I should be able to get home every 3 weeks with Swift, and every 5-6 weeks with Stevens. My wife and I have put some money back to help out the first couple of months, and my ultimate goal is to get 2 years experience to then drive tankers locally. Any thoughts from drivers that have worked for either company or both would be appreciated. Thank you.

Good friend drivers for Stevens. He's not getting 3000/miles per week but he did get excellent drive time while training and the company doesn't run trainees as teams when training with their trainer ... a huge plus! Too many companies abuse this process.

I feel where you are coming from. Stevens has contacted me and they are #1 at the moment. I can only share the advice that I have been giving and that is to do the research. I'm researching all the companies that I can find that have their own CDL training program before picking. I'm also seeking advice along the way. I do have one plus and that is the fact that I live in north Louisiana only 1 mile from interstate. I was told by many that the companies will eat that up because I-20 is a long stretch hot spot from East to West. I do know that Stevens has top of the line trucks. That is a big factor that I'm looking for because I was always told you don't want to have a piece of **** rig. As far as Swift goes, I have heard good and bad, bad and good. I have heard that about Stevens as well. I believe that they all have positives and negatives. Stevens told me 3000 a week as well. I don't know. I am going to take my time and research. If you haven't yet you might want to check out Prime because they are near you compared to Stevens. Not sure were Swift sends you. Prime is in Springfield, Missouri. Also, Roehl is up there near you also. I have been getting a lot of positive about both of those companies. I just don't think I'm in their location range. Many schools go for students near their area from what I have heard. I would check them out if you haven't. Best of luck to the both of us.

Go for Stevens, I went with Swift since they are the larger company and made things look "better" Swift has been having a ton of issues getting pre plans correct and stuff too lately which is ####### a lot of drivers, there is also a class action lawsuit going on against Swift right now because they dont pay actual mileage and pay by zip code, I have seen people get paid for 2100 miles on a 2400 mile load, a load I picked up yesterday was paid for 655 miles yet the route was 792...

I get miles but the pay is a joke even after a year, I have been told by different drivers that Stevens is a good company to work for.

Just do your research and talk to drivers

Man if they are telling you that they guarantee 3k miles a week, you best get that in writing up front, signed by someone who matters

yep, a lot of companies say that and then you see totally different once hired.

One week I can get over 3k miles and then the following week im struggling to even get close to 2k. It mostly depends on your planners, where the freight is compared to where you are etc. I sat in Washington over the weekend without a load for 3 days since freight was bad there and then i get a load, get there and they tell me the load isnt ready for 4 days...yeah sheet happens...

most companies pay by the household movers mileage guide which is pretty much zip to zip. You seldom find anyone paying TRUE miles.
