Prime does not use the "Dmv med team" and MO is not NC, so NOT the same DMV.

In the past, almost anyone could sign a DOT medical form including chiropractors, veterinarians... those forms were available in truckstops, so Joe Truckdriver could get his buddy to sign one. Obviously there were a lot of fraudulent medical cards floating around. To combat this, the carriers have employed their own doctors to ensure that they weren't hiring a ringer, going to get screwed for medical costs that they weren't liable for, etc. Starting next year all doctors providing DOT physicals will have a training course they have to pass, and their credentials will need to be approved by DOT. That is most likely going to be a problem for us...
It may look like a scam to you, but it's for the carrier's protection (the carrier physical) and the public's protection (the physical required by DOT to get your permit.) The extra cash laid out to get that permit early is well worth it. -
I don't mind getting the physical at Prime. I just wish I had known that the Iowa DMV was going to ask for the medical card for the permit. In the end, it worked out. After explaining the situation, the lady showed me a pamphlet, and said that I could get my permit without a medical card if I could declare that I was doing at least one of the activities listed. After that, she continued processing my permit, and just told me that when I got my medical card, to bring it in, so that my declaration could be changed.

...also (there's more!!!) every time you get a new medical, it's usually two years, you have to do whatever your state requires to document that you have a new medical. They're tied to your CDL license now. Last year, I had to mail a copy to the Colorado CDL license office within 60 days of getting my new medical. In a few years the process will be electronic- oh boy!! Another way they can screw-up, and mess with your life!!!
Locrius Thanks this. -
Hi, I am going to Scranton pa for my orientation, How is it there? Are there plenty of Wi-Fi spots out on the road that are free or should I buy a hotspot?
-
@ironpony :ty for the clearup and I see clearly that its nit a scam just a way to insure that it a justified way to ensure that Prime inc get a solid driver not a shady driver.
I hope I didn't sound like a person stirring up a issue. Which I'm not. Just looking at finding all the info I can before making a life changing decision. -
Free WiFi on the road sucks. You're much better off with a hotspot, and a serious plan for coverage. Make sure you pay attention to the network coverage map. Having cell phone coverage outside of say Lusk WY when you're broken down on the side of the road in the desert beats the crud out of a zillion bit-per-second download rate anywhere.

Even the wifi at the truckstops where you pay sucks. Unless your inside.
