Good morning everyone. This is my first post so hopefully I am doing this right. Ok so I applied for Maverick recently and I missed a recruiter's phone call yesterday and am planning on calling him back this afternoon. The other day I renewed my DOT physical and found out that my blood pressure is right on the limit of 2 year cert and 1 year cert, but not high enough for me to be put on medication yet. The doctor said if I could lose 10-15 pounds she is confident that my blood pressure will not be an issue, and after reading how stringent Maverick is with their physical I don't want to be sent down just to make a fool of myself. So anyway, I was just wondering if you all think it would be ok if I discussed the situation with the recruiter and ask him if I could have a month or so just to try and get myself on the right path and work on my blood pressure?

By the way Maverick is absolutely where I want to be. I have read so many good things about them and did a lot of research, I'm not all too interested in many other starter companies other than Maverick, so I am going to keep my fingers crossed that this all works out.

    Thanks everybody!

Your true blood pressure is probably lower than what was read in the doctor's office. Many people get "white coat" syndrome in doctor's offices which raises their blood pressure.
Some nurses will allow you to rest a while and then take a second reading. Do some web research on how to keep blood pressure low when preparing for a test.
It may help to have a home blood pressure monitor to keep a record of your blood pressure. Good units keep a history and some have software to allow computer printouts.

Thank you RickG. I am cutting out caffeine and I started a low sodium diet and exercise program today. The doc tellin me it wouldn't hurt to lose a few pounds was the kick in the butt I needed to get motivated. And I will buy a home monitor and keep records. good advice!

Casey, just be honest with your recruiter. They will give you all the information you need to get hired. I didn't know I have diabetes until my DOT exam from CDL school. I told my recruiter know and she had me talk to HR and they gave me all the info I needed to get cleared for orientation. I have been able to control my blood sugar through diet and exercise by doing research on how to keep it in check too. I have completed orientation and I'm now with a driver instructor. Just be honest with Maverick, if they want you they will work with you to get you to orientation
