Some times getting out of a car on the bottom level is tough. If the vehicle is large/wide and the truck driver is large it can be a tight fit. I don't see where a limp is going to bother him unless he gets to a load area and has to walk a long way to where the cars are. It can happen.

I saw one guy that was huge, probably pushing 400 lbs hauling cars. But he had to have a skinny peon to do the loading for him. The fat guy was the boss. Looked funny.

I'll agree on the tight squeeze thing.

Getting a pickup or an SUV in the belly pocket on a 10 car wasn't too hard space wise...plenty of side to side room.

Getting ME out of the vehicle sure was at times. I've had to crawl over the seats and exit out the rear door in SUVs and out the windows of pickups before.

It's a trick for an old guy that's tall and doesn't bend that easily anymore.

Living in Michigan you should check out Jack Cooper or one of the other teamster companies! There is more B.S. to put with and the trucks arn't as nice usually but the pay and benifits more than make up for the downside! Company pays 100% of health ins. and $1250 a week take home is EASILY done once you learn the job! Keep in mind this is not an easy job to learn-I wanted to quit almost every day the first year or so. The fact that your huband has a limp should not be a factor as long as he can walk and climb(alot!).

On the upside the way the union contract is written they have to load you back towards home EVERY trip so you're home quite a bit plus the nights you're out they put you in a motel. Just wanted give you a heads up to other possibilities. Good luck!

Hi my name is Kipp and I live in Florida. I'm seriously considering hooking my ford superduty diesel up with a three car hauler and quiting my current job. I have a class a license but other than that I have no idea what I'm doing. Can someone guide me as to what is required in order to get started? (licenses, registration, DOT) like I said I'm clueless. Another question I had was about brokers. I don't want to work for a company but i've heard that you can pay a membership to a broker and they provide you with a list of vehicles and the destinations along with a price. Is this true? Id appreciate any info that anyone could provide me. Thanks.

Can you tell me the name of some of the places for him to apply to, is Jack Reed Transport the one you were referring to? Any info would be great. Thanks

In Michigan, Jack Cooper Transport is a teamster outfit. You can put your name in there. I heard that they are the next teamster carhauler to file for bankruptcy but who knows, it could be just rumour.

I heard the thing about Cooper as well. From what I heard it's just a ploy to get the 15% cut in pay the way Allied did last year but even at that the union pay is head and shoulders above the non-union package. It wouldn't suprise me to see all of the union companies do this to stay competitive with each other.

I don't know if their package is "head and shoulders above" our pay package. I earned over $90,000 in 2007 and many of our drivers earned over 6 figures. I don't know alot of teamster drivers that can say they made over $100,000 last year.
