Sleeping In Truck While Solo, and with Trainer

Just get a twin fitted sheet for the top bunk, then a cheap sleeping bag and a pillow. If you're sleeping while the trainer is driving, you'll have to sleep on the bottom bunk, his bed, so you can probably just use the sleeping bag and your pillow and sleep on top of his bedding. Then if your on the top bunk, both sleeping for some reason, then at least you'll have something decent to sleep on with the fitted sheet. If your finances are tight right now, you'll be able to slide by with what you already have till you are in your own truck and have gotten a few paychecks.

You're right but unfortunately the majority of companies that train newbies often run them as teams. There are a few that don't and those companies should be commended at least in this regard.

 

Okay well,with that being said..just do what you need to stay comfortable for now,you won't be broke forever my friend.

 

I can't even IMAGINE sharing someone's bedding,GO FOR THE SLEEPING BAG AND ZIP UP! And roll it up when your done.

 

My recommendation is to get a sleeping bag for training and for your first months solo. A sleeping bag is portable, so you can put it in the bottom bunk to not have to deal with your trainer's "funk" when you are sleeping in the bottom bunk while team driving, and it can go with you when you go solo. After you are solo and are confident that you won't have to "slip seat" (get into another truck) with your company, then go for sheets and regular bedding. Many companies will slip seat you if you take more than 34 hours home time, so you might not end up with the same make and model truck when you return to work. My company has a slip seat policy until after 3 months solo driving.

If you have to slip seat then having the minimum amount of gear to shlep around in your car or at terminals is a good idea.

Walmart has some good cheap options for sleeping bags, either Coleman or their house brand bags. I would recommend getting a "mummy" style sleeping bag (the kind with a hood with a drawcord that can pull around your head) because in colder weather you can pull that hood around you for additional warmth. Sleeping bags are temperature rated, so get the lighter rated bags for this hot summer weather. In winter you could consider one of the heavier, warmer bags. The synthetic bags can be put in the washer on delicate cycle and tumble dried warm (NOT HOT). I picked up my light weight mummy bag at Walmart for about $30-40.

 

Wal-Mart is a good place. I priced sleeping bags there last week and they started at $20. Sign me up for that. I will be training with a team so there will be 3 of us while I'm in training so I'm not worried about sheets until I get released and get teamed up with my co-driver. Also think about a memory foam mattress. Worth it's weight in gold. Go to Wal-Mart for that too. Another good tip for places to go to get stuff inexpensive is dollar stores & Big Lots.

 

I would buy some sheets as they are easy to wash. A Lot of the washers at the truck stops are HE so they are small and don't use a lot of water.

 

Buy sheets and two blankets and plan to put them over his or her sheets and take them off and stow them when you finish. You'll be on the lower bunk when they're driving which is their bunk.

Forget the sleeping bag, it'll become too hot and you don't want to roll it up and unroll it as it becomes used that'll just be disgusting.
