Had a thought pop into my mind tonight: Does any manufacturer (past it present) make/made a CB radio that only operated on SSB (USB/LSB) and doesn't use the AM portion only SSB? And I don't mean a 10 metre/export/or ham radio? Thought that would be a neat addition to my setup as a base radio for long distance communication or in a mobile radio set-up in a pickup truck. I.E. twin co-phases whips for the 40ch CB and for the aforementioned SSB only radio with a 102" whip mounted on the rear of the body. Thinking that would be a neat set-up.
So anyone have knowledge of said style of radio? Been on my mind all day but haven't been able to google it and find anything.
Is there a CB Radio for sale that only operates on Single Side Band?

No........

Nope....all CB's with SSB also have AM too.....
Even ham radios with SSB also have AM. -
Just curious because the idea for it would be a secondary radio that only works on SSB for long range

Actually, there is.. or was...
It's called the Stoner Pro 40. It was made in the late 70s and only operates on sideband. It was a hell of a radio, far advanced for it's time and priced to match. If I recall correctly, less than 1,000 were made. Even today they bring a premium price on ebay.
It was a base station of course. I do not know of any mobile CB ever made that was SSB only.305-Hillbilly Thanks this. -
Interesting I'll look it up, thanks!

Its hard to find info on it, however you can get the pro-40 under $500. It is a good radio, for me it is just as good as my CPIs but not up to the quality like some of the other stuff I have had.
However if you want an SSB only radio, I can fix one up for you, I just will take out the AM portion on the switch. -
Stoners had AM...Well, sort-of...The Stoner Pro-40 had a AM switch so if you had another radio also hooked up to the Stoner, you could hit that switch and then be able to talk on AM using the transmitter of the other radio...

There were a few others like "Johnson 350 THIS WAS A MOBILE" and " Mark Sidewinder BASE" I actually owned these and repaired many of them

It was just an idea I had, I wouldn't pay money to mod a radio to only operate on SSB but if I and across a radio for sale that only had SSB I would pick it up. But thanks for the offer anyway.
