Going back to the post about detention pay, if the customer signs the detention slip then yes you will get detention pay. However occasionally they refuse to sign, if that happens you fill out the detention slip and write in "refuse to sign". Maybe you will, maybe you won't get paid its a gamble worth filling out the delay form for. That being said FueltankHank, at A&R Baton Rouge & A&R Morris as well as other facilities I've been to, detention has never been paid because, as was explained to me by management, it can't be billed to the customer unless there is a legitimate reason for the delay such as the railcar not being spotted. Your post about the "always being paid after 2 hours" leads me to question if you are even a driver. You obviously have great knowledge of the company and I don't question your employment with us but me and another A&R employee both think maybe your management posing as a driver. If in fact you are a driver I apologize for the accusation but then must assume maybe you don't watch your pay statement closely or your on a dedicated run and never see system freight. Detention pay with this company is very hit and miss and all drivers I've discussed this matter with agree.

I would agree that it can be hit or miss if communication is lacking. I've had instances were detention wasn't paid but after discussing the issue with the manager it gets worked out. If you can form a relationship with your manager it seems most issues work themselves out. Nothing is perfect of course but it doesn't mean it has to be screwed up all the time either.
shanbone you said it earlier at one point. Sometimes you have to standup for yourself and say I can't do this or I need to do that. I think the same goes for these issues. You don't have to settle for not being paid, communicate your issue up the chain of command. -
I'll start being more vocal about detention. I delivered a load yesterday in Houston with a total of 4+ hours delay between the shipper and receiver and both refused to sign. We'll see how it goes. If my memory serves me right, this load doesn't give me any problems on pay. Loading now in Llake Charles, LA going to Maple Plain, MN delivering on the 2nd giving me 2.5 days to get there. From there I see myself with a DMT to Morris.

how many miles la to mn ??
What is DMT ?? -
And what is kind of an average of how long it takes to actually load a trailer and unload ??

Dmt is deadhead to your next destination, usually a terminal for a tank wash. -
Unloading is 1.5 to 2 hrs usually but again it varies with product and the customers plumbing has the biggest impact. Some customers limit unload pressure to as low as 5 psi adding additional time to your unloading, this is where detention pay kicks in. -
I unloaded a day early in Minnesota and was told to wash out in St. Paul and load in Manitowoc, WI. For a Monday delivery (in Decatur, TX). Not a great load but could be worse. Now getting loaded and received a call from Ft. Worth saying I might drop at yard Sunday and start another load. It depends on how quick I can get loaded here in WI. They're blowing the product in the trailer while sucking it from 1000# boxes so it takes a while. Guy loading before me was 3hrs. If I can make it south of Des Moines tonight, hopefully Eaglesville, MO, I'll be within reach of Ft Worth tomorrow and load Sunday. Otherwise I'm loading Monday.
