I'm looking into becoming a trucker and I read in another thread that there is a color test as part of the physical. I am red-green colorblind and I have 20/40 vision. I was planning on getting contacts or glasses soon as they help with night time driving but I want to make sure that being colorblind isn't going to disqualify me from passing the physical.
I can easily discern street signs and stop lights, it's not really bad colorblindness, but it definitely will show up if they give me a test. Will this be a problem for me?

I think it depends on where you get your physical done. I have had some that do those crazy pics with all the dots in em. I have also had them test me by asking what color the lines were on the eye chart!
It all depends on who does the physical. Also, I had one place not even test for it at all. Good luck to you!

Hmmm....I've never had a color-blind test, either part of a DOT physical or a company physical. I'd find a clinic in your area that does DOT physicals, and give them a call and ask.

Cool. Thanks. I'm actually pretty worried about it but I'll just hunt down a place and hopefully it will be good news. It doesn't impair my driving at all, I just know some places are weird about colorblindness.

The doctor's office that I used to work for always did the test, but my mom's office never did.
