I have a question about orientation. I will be the greenest of green newbie when I arrive in Salt Lake City 26 Aug. How much of a problem will that be? I went to a local CDL school in hopes of getting a jump in Springfield. Now they want me to skip the Springfield school (i have my CDL now with all endorsements, Passport and TWIC) and go straight to orientation and 40k miles of training... which I am up for. Just don't want to be in over my head and disappoint my trainer. Ive done very few hours behind the wheel on the road.

I think that will be a known quantity. You are behind the power curve right from the start compared to the PSD types. Just do your best, don't screw-up, and make sure you get as much sleep as you can.
quetzalcoatl Thanks this. -
I started the exact same way. You only start in SLC if you already have a CDL, experience or not. Biggest piece of advice... make sure your trainer knows where you got your CDL and that you have *just* enough drive time to pass the state test... That was the biggest reason my first trainer and I did not get along. He wasn't used to a non-PSDer... and I didn't much like being treated like I was supposed to know something and getting yelled at because I was clueless all the while I've got the total deer in headlight look in my eyes like what on EARTH are you talking about?!quetzalcoatl Thanks this.

A good trainer will sit with you and evaluate you to determine how much supervision you require while driving. He will also keep the fleet manager updated and tell him how hard to run the truck.
That's why c seats only get .10 or $500 for the first couple weeks. C seats just can't be run like b seats right out of the gate.quetzalcoatl Thanks this. -
Not working for me. Neither is shift-enter. All my nice pretty paragraphs get squished together into one. Must be a perk when you get more posts. Although it's working for me just now in Preview. We'll see if the next blank line stays put when I Submit. Edit: well, now it's working. I give up. Just glad it is now.
*does a double-take on username* Seebs? Is that you? From IIDB?
All good info, thanks! - and thanks especially for the pics. I've got a much better idea of what I'll be dealing with now. Not much room for a kitchen, is there?

*grins* You and Seebs know each other? Thanks for the peek at your pics!

If they haven't contacted you in a couple of weeks, give 'em a call.

I'm hoping to come to Springfield next summer, after I finish classes. How far in advance should I start the process and submit my application? How soon is too soon?
