I'm not gonna say who the FM is that stated this... don't feel like giving too many clues to my identity![]()
I asked if they were looking for any locals out of my terminal or had any open office positions. His response was that there is a hiring freeze in the offices, and locals are being phased out. They are starting to make line haul drivers make more of the final deliveries instead of just dropping in the yards.
FM says local drivers going away... hiring freeze on office...

think your FM lied to ya

the FM that is in charge of Denver is calling people, which I assume he has a list of people that are based out of denver, and seeing who wants to get off regional/otr and work out of the yard
maybe its just THAT yard that they aren't hiring localsmje Thanks this. -
LOL He told you that becuase they don't like losing OTR drivers. If you want local tell them you are quiting to drive local. Then they might switch you. Worked for me.

The truth is CEO Marc Rogers et. al. have been tasked by Saltchuk to squeeze every penny of revenue out of the company by making several cuts in staffing, closing terminals, foregoing company perks (except for upper management, of course), and eliminating many local driver positions that would otherwise cover dropped loads at terminals and yards.
Instead, they expect OTR drivers to deliver at least one local load before they are 'rewarded' with a decent run. To add insult to injury, if you arrive with your load a day or two early and ask to drop it at the yard, they will ask you to do a local load next, and only pay you mileage on it. If you're getting 36cpm and they have you do a 15 mile local run that takes 3 hours from pickup to empty, you'll be paid a whopping pre-tax $5.40! If a local driver did it he'd be paid 3 hours at $17/hr = $51 for the same delivery, so you see it's much cheaper to use a lowly OTR slave instead. And if drivers don't stand up to this abuse it'll catch on industry-wide. Tell them NO! -
i have been driving for a couple years at IDC. Since the buyout things have gotten better. Im not driving a million mile volvo that breaks down 5 times a month anymore, so thats a huge plus. They also reinstated the 401k match, which is small, but its better than nothing. They did close Orland, but French Camp took its place, so thats a wash. The local deliveries get old, but i can understand them wanting us to deliver a load if we drop a load. Its all part of trucking, ya take the good with the bad, and IDC has more good than bad.

French Camp is only a drop yard. Orland was a terminal with a fueling station, dispatch office, and repair shop. Plus they closed the West Sac yard and the Stockton yard, and replaced them with the French Camp yard, so it's far from a wash. The 401k "match" is an absolute joke. You would be far better served to invest the money youself with a mutual fund. It would return more on an annual basis than IDC's tiny contribution. In fact IDC takes your money off the top an reinvests it at a much higher return for themselves than they'll ever pay you back. Same goes for the Per Diem. It allows them to not declare that portion of your income to the government so that they pay less into the Social Security and Medicare programs you'll need later.
IDC needs drivers like you who capitulate to their ever-greedier policies that screw you and I out of more money. You shouldn't be proud of your statement above. It's exactly why trucking is going down the shyter.
