I am in the hay business in KS and trying to find a couple more local truckers that would be interested in hauling hay in in KS, CO, and NE. I am curious if there are any sites that cater to getting in contact with independent truckers for something like this? I sincerely hate Uship. I also due to my needs, buying some expensive membership for a load board does not make too much sense.
I have talked to brokers before but never had much luck with them because there is always they "middle man" trying to suck blood out of a tight market. I had one tell me "the trucker is loading it up now" after I got tired of waiting and found my own trucker and had the shipment moved already.
It is a pay per mile or load deal, NOT pay by the ton or whatever.
Sites for direct shippers trying to find indepenent truckers

One low cost load board is the Internettruckstop (about $35 per month); I find loads there every now and then... if you are loading trucks out of CO, there should be some there almost everyday... seems like everytime I end up in that state, I sit waiting for a decent run out... KS and NE are pretty good markets for truckers, so you might have a little tougher time there... all depends on the rate and where the truck winds up... one major consideration for most O/O's is whether or not they can get a factoring company to take the BOL, or whether you are paying COD... hope this helps.

I'm pretty sure Internet Truckstop does not charge for a basic Shipper account.

What I usually do is require the hay paid for in advance and the truck is COD at the delivery point. That way the buyers have leverage on the trucker if the load is destroyed for whatever reason, and I have leverage over the buyer to pay the trucker since the hay is paid. I have heard where some people don't want to move hay for fear of not getting paid. Unless the trucker damages the load, I fail to see why the hauler should be affected by an issue between buyer and seller.
What is a BOL? ...my ignorance. -
I am not sure of the rules here and hate to start any wars on pricing but please PM me of you want to chat on that.

BOL means Bill of Lading...

what's the pay and is it tarped???

No tarp. I have had truckers ask me just that "what does it pay". Do truckers not bid jobs?
