Does anyone have any advice on Foodservice Companies.. is it hard work?
I know there are a few of those companies out there that hire drivers.
I've heard of McLane and Sygma..How are they?

I haven't done food service, yet.. .but I will be starting with mcLane in a week and a half, but during my interview all the manager consistently said was its hard work
you're unloading that truck by hand, its definitely not your regular OTR position, your job is more unloading than driving.
theres also cisco, MBM, and at least 2 others i've seen (US foods or something? and pfg? dont know the names off the top of my head, tho Im sure theres a bunch more)Truckergirl0720 Thanks this. -
You have to have the body for it, for moving 150 lbs up and down a gangplank rain or shine and stay on a tight schedule that is tied to your performance bonus. Some are salary, some are hourly. McLane has a foodservice division and it's a fantastic company, non-union, use to be AmeriServe I believe.
Not to be confused with Grocery distributors, like MBM and McLane (grocery division, not foodservice) which are great pay, great benefits, great home time, but very hard work, heavy loads, 20 to 25 stops, hectic delivery. Did I mention great pay?Truckergirl0720 Thanks this. -
If your athletic like a good work out and making money, Go for it. First week you will be sore. After that $$ in the bank! I did it. Also unloaded weights bar bells ect for Play it again sports stores. When I could hold a 10 Lb weight like a dinner plate, I knew it was time for a change.

This is definitely good information..I have seen McLane tractors on the road. I notice that they are day cabs but I can handle that if I am home a few nights a week. I have never seen any advertisement for McLane...Any ideas on contacting those guys?

Well let me tell you about McLane. First of all they have state-of-the-art DC's all over this country between their Foodservice and Grocery divisions. And last spring they bought out MBM. McLane is a debt-free company and they are the leaders of their industry, have all the national accounts (Walmart, Target, Kmart, 7-11, many more) a company could want, they know how to manage property. They distinguish themselves as a "Distributor" not a warehouse. Which means they bring in product on the receiving side and ship it out as quickly as possible on the shipping side. They are a managed inventory company. I could go on. What it all means for you is, high pay, excellent benefits like their phenomenal 401K plan which has paid 1.50 to 1.65 match for the past 8 years.
If you can get hired you'll never sit, you'll run.Last edited: Aug 1, 2013

Yes you apply for CDL driver at their website. Or you can go to a DC, they're always looking for talent.
