I personally would prefer a Detroit. But yeah, I'd consider it IF.....
It has all receipts to go with that rebuild.
I'd want to know how they can have an overhaul 100K ago and then a new crank 6 months ago.
But of all the current Cats, that's the one I would go with. -
I think that's too much for a 2000. Considering some companies won't hire you if your truck is older than 10 years. I payed 30 for a 07 last year with 202,000 miles and it had LEDs and a lot of chrome.

now I may be stubborn but once again, Can't ditch cali, I have to go in often to visit my kids.
on that
2008 T660 KW $43.5k
72 in Studio Sleeper; C15 Caterpillar Engine 475 hp; Diesel; 634,373 mi; 13 spd Ultrashift; Engine Brake; Air leaf Suspension; 3.55 Ratio; Aluminum Wheels; 240 in Wheelbase, 150 gal tanks, super singles drives,
they offer warranty (available for purchase) should I get the full (that covers injectors, egr, DPF, SCR ) with it? how much should this cost me? -
Seriously then.
Ditch the idea of getting an 08 Cat.
If you have to get a truck capable of going to Cali, look at a detroit. S60, DD13 or DD15.
out of all the engines that are EPA07 certified, the Detroits have had the least amount of trouble of the ones I have talked to.
ISX and especially the 08 Cats, (Happens to be the last year cat MADE a road truck engine) -
Buy a pre emission truck for work, and when you want to see your kids buy a plane ticket.
Financially you'll be miles ahead. -
This here as a funny mark.. can you see the pattern?
Well I'm writing in here to say thanks everyone for the responses, also I'd like to add I didn't spend the $25k on repairs as predicted. It was actually $38k. Of which only about $4k went to the engine/emissions components,
So it wasn't so bad, unfortunately the truck was a lemon, it kept breaking down every week. Leaks here and there, tranny problems, and then again and again and then some..
This will be a good buy now for anybody, since I fixed all the problems and ive had zero emission problems with it for the past 8+ months.
I've survived this long with truck problems, downtime and personal bills eating me out. Boy this has been a ride.
Today I'm at the peterbilt dealer in WI, just got approved for a 2014 579 black beauty with all the bells and whistles. I'm picking it up monday
Stay positive, you can overcome whatever it is you're going through.
Btw, this Pete dealer I'm at, I'd say the best in the nation! -
.... so you havent gone bankrupt...yet
see thats the interesting thing, why drop 40k into a truck (+payments) to just turn around and throw away your investment by sinking deeper into debt? it's just plain old illogical, if your old truck is good enough for someone else, why isnt she good enough for you?
my story, bought 94 kw, pre-emissions engine (17k$) paid it off and now doing a 22k inframe on it to make her last the next 7-8 years, by my count, thats a bought and paid for truck with a brand new engine for 1k more than you spent on repairs alone in a single year...
my .02
best of luck to you -
This. Don't buy a truck with a DPF unless it's new, so you can get an extended warranty WHEN (not if) a component on it fails. Dosers, DPF's, DOC's, Decomp tubes, ect. are all pricey as fudge.
