I'm sure you will get a number of interesting responses from this question. Be sure to read the emotional roller-coaster ride that is Daytona's "Have to Start Somewhere" thread from the "Questions From New Drivers" string. The untempered candor of his writing style reflects his day to day journey from CDLA school student newbie to present day. A good read.

what the heck is a average day? everyday is different otr schedule is crazy you sleep when you can ( good luck finding a parking spot )and drive when you can.
some days are great and everything goes great you get loaded and have a great drive, get to your reciever on time and get unloaded and are headed for another pick up.
other days you wait 10 hrs to get loaded then go scale your truck only to find out your 1000 lbs over weight and have to go back to have 2 pallets taken off which takes another 5 hours, now your late leaving and out of hours for the day and havent made a dime cuz you have been at a shipper for 15 hrs.
finially you hit the road !!!! what? a wreck a 8 mile back up ? what a ice storm ? oh geez i shoulda been a dr.
what im saying is you will have good days and bad days , ive been driving for 8yrs and i love it for the most part, but it has its moments. i try to have fun and dont let it get to me, keep your temper in check and dont try to make up for lost time and get in a hurry, thats when it gets ugly, the stress, anger, and running late usually leads to wrecks . just stay cool and stay safe .
    good luck out there !

A bad day trucking, beats a good day at the office, factory, or warehouse. :yes2557:

Cybergal's summation is about right. Eat (some interesting foods), sleep (if you can find a place to park), and drive (through every condition imaginable).

    You gotta' love the drive.

Now if only I could find a way to do all three at the same time and live to tell about it.
