It's been a while since I've made a post. probably a couple weeks, maybe a month. since my last post, I started driving school. Day classes at WMCDL.
I'm trying to figure out where I'm going after I "graduate". I had a plan but where i was going just told me something completely different from when i had first talked to them 3 weeks ago, so moving on.
I was wondering if anyone had any information on ALTL based out of Hudsonville, MI. A recruiter came to the school this week, and seemed to be on the level, but just to be safe, I'd like to here it from someone who's job isn't to get people to go work for them. Any info from current or past drivers for them would be much appreciated.

I've never worked there, but haven't heard bad either, seem to stay busy and keep newer equipment.

Thanks. My trainer worked for them before he started teaching. He didn't have anything negative to about them.

I am currently driving for them. if you live in Michigan you should have no trouble getting home time as most drivers get home for a 34 almost every week. miles are not a problem as they have contracted customers in Michigan moving a lot of freight to many places. usually the backhaul can be anything just to get the truck back to Michigan in order to service the contracted customers. the only down time is getting off loaded since they haul a lot of office furniture and those loads typically take about 2-3 hrs to get empty. but it is all no touch freight with the exception for one customer but in 6 months I have only had that customer once. nice equipment, great folks in the service shop and safety and dispatchers are as busy as any other company having too many drivers to manage but all in all they are better than who I previously drove for.

Yea I decided to apply and am currently with a OTR trainer. So far so good.

good for you, so you already know what it is like there. like I said, better than who I have driven for. just keep a positive attitude and you will do well. always protect your CDL, it is how you make a living. you are responsible. be safe.

Is it mostly east coast or a lot of Florida and Texas?
-
It depends on where you live. ALL the Michigan drivers get home almost weekly for a reset. I never went to Texas for them, in the beginning a lot of northeast then back to Michigan then after that mostly in the south east region (NC to AL) down to Florida and back. If you live elsewhere they try to get you home often but getting out then back to Michigan is a bit more challenging for them. I have since left them and the day I gave my 2 week notice, they swapped me out of my truck and had to wait 9 days for the truck I was to swap into to fill out my notice was in the shop. So I made no money (well they did pay me breakdown pay for 5 of the 9 days!!!) then had to drive that truck back to the yard in Michigan with a load. They did pay my bus ticket home to Florida. I hear many of the senior drivers are leaving so take that for what its worth. Good luck.

I live in grand rapids they are about 20 min. from my house but I really don't want to go east. What is the pay going for now.

This is an old post and you haven't written anything since, but is the one furniture company you mentioned Steelcase? I worked for another Grand Rapids regional carrier that had an occasional Steelcase load and while we didn't have to load/unload the furniture, we did have to break down and store the shelves inside the van and fold all the pads...and there were about 100 of them, so it took some time, for which we weren't paid.
