May seem a silly question, but as I'm just finalizing reinstating my authority and will have a couple of trucks operating, can I get by without a fax machine? Do not have a landline and just wondering if that will be an issue. Everything I do is scan & e-mail....just wondering if it might be a problem at some point, not having a fax. Thanks..

As mentioned above. The Electronic faxes - The company you get will give you a fax number. Anyone will fax to that number and you will get an E-Mail stating as such. You usually will get an attachment or go to their website to see the fax, which you can then print out on a printer.

i use ringcentral. it has an app for the phone as well.

someone sends me a fax. my phone notifies me. send or receive. i also get a email notification that it's sent or i have one.

when i get a fax. i can use my phone app. or pull up the email. or use the computer app or email. 4 ways to see my faxes.

i like the app over email. no downloading with the app. it's all on there server. opens right up as long as adobe is installed on the computer. or one of 4 apps on the phone.

well worth the $8 to me.

    :D

I'd go with eFax for sure. This brings back memories, getting hired into my first corporate sales job in 1984 and how proud my new boss was of his fax machine... big as a refrigerator and it could send a page in under two minutes... if it didn't give that awful horn blast to alert you that page didn't send and your 30 page fax would have to start ALL OVER...

... back then almost every business card had a telex address, about 5% had a fax number. Fast forward 10 years and telex was gone, almost everyone had a fax number, and about 5% had this newfangled thing called "e-mail"...

... yeah, if a broker is still stuck in the '80's then force them to get with the program. I worked in imports for the last 30 years, in the last 10 years I had a fax machine, but used it about once a month for those few idiots that couldn't seem to get with the program. PDF files and e-mail attachments for documents for clearing customs, BOL's from truckers, etc.

    FAX? Really? Come on....

I use a scanner and send everything as an attachment in an email.

email is too susceptible to viruses.

    faxes aren't.

i don't want anyone using my email right now. i've got a trojan i just can't get rid of. (computers and phone have been wiped MULTIPLE times and password changed). and being as how it's the only email addy i've had since the beginning. i really don't want the hassle of creating a new one and changing all my accounts.

i'll stick with the old fashioned 80's method and use my 21st century technology fax

If you have a "trojan" or other issues with e-mail, that's something that needs to be sorted out. Generally it is best if you have a real problem to get a professional involved with solving the issue or start with a new e-mail address. Best to avoid opening attachments from unknown sources or ANY attachment that is a ".zip" or ".exe" file.

If you are scanning to pdf, that is best. If you are using jpg's, then it is just as easy to take a picture with your cell phone and send the picture, and a lot of times the quality is better than a scanner. Pdf's are generally smaller in file size and you can easily collect them into multiple page documents (if you have Acrobat Professional).
