That was the case for me. I only had to take the combination test to get my CDL-A permit in PA.
States are free to do what they want; it's possible that you'll have to take all three tests for your permit in your state.

How difficult is it to pick a specific trainer?
-
Very!
It's certainly not an audition for the instructor. I know I'm not going to sing and dance for a student. They might not think twice if you refuse your first instructor.... After that the scrutiny will probably fall on you more and more as you reject one after the other... That, and you'll be sitting a while waiting for them to find you another instructor from your area.
There is a certain value to all prospective students and employees. However at some point without a proven track record at the company, your potential value might not be worth the cost of the hassles of the present.TICKLES Thanks this. -
In the pairing of trainers/students, is it customary to pair the two that may live close to one another? same state? Also, any instances with female trainers and male students?
-
If they can get two folks from the same area, it works better for home time. Yes, we have female trainers who work with male students.cementandrocks Thanks this.

Another quick question, what's the chance of once solo, running primarily the East coast? Also, how is the freight in the NC area? Thanks IronPony!!
-
They'll try at least. My trainer was from California.
I got along with him though and just invited him over during my hometime.
As a company driver, no chance at all. Prime is a 48 state company, you'll be all over. Now once you get some miles under your belt, you might be able to run a regional account there, though I'm not sure if Prime has one. NC wise, during my short stay, I ran quite a few loads down there.cementandrocks Thanks this. -
Hey just got my first check from prime not bad, for those that say prime doesn't pay any money bs i'm pretty excited about my statement. Two loads 1100 total miles plus i did get a bonus for get'n a trifector on my pre-trip an i'm a company driver $585 after taxes, so i'am taking that to the bank!!!
Be safe drivers

Once you get your truck, you'll want to go introduce yourself to your FM. Remember, he's the one who helps you get your loads- SO MAKE SURE HE'S YOUR BFF! Then, say, "Gee, I'd sure like to run most of my loads on the east coast!" I'll bet you'll get your wish. BTW... hollerin' at your FM because things aren't working out the way you've decided it should, will not get you where you want to be!
Now that doesn't mean you won't get west some, but it sure helps. That's what I did when I started on the company side, and my FM was more than happy to keep me busy east of the Rockies. 48-state OTR or not.
Wait 'till you start getting a real paycheck!
cementandrocks and $lim Thank this. -
Anyone with Prime know of any help I can get. My past over 12 months work has been paid under the table and recruiting says I can't get hired because I don't have a 1099 form. I was paid cash from current job. Recruitment department insisting I can't get into orientation because of this issue.
