Congrats!!! Just remember something. CDL school gave you the BASICS. Being out with your trainer and getting serious time behind the wheel will hone your skills and MAKE you a driver.
I always compared being a driver to starting with a pile of Legos. CDL school NORMALLY gives you the basic foundation. You build up your experience after school. One block at a time. Go at it with an open mind and remember that you will learn something new everyday out here. Don't get complacent and don't get ####y. There are a TON of expereinced drivers, both here and on the road that will be more than happy to share their experiences and help you as you begin your journey into the world of Professional Driving.
WELCOME ABOARD!!!!!!

I got my CDL today

Do you not read? I SAID "GIVE HIM 6 MONTHS AND WE SHALL SEEIF HE THINKS THE SAME WAY LOL. HOPE HE DOES BUT DONT THINK HE WILL."
Where does it say anything about how long I'm predicting you will last? I'm talking about your attitude about how great trucking is. Usually its about 6 months of this is great and then the attitude changes. Yes I was a beginner at one time, and I'm not on a high horse. If I was on a high horse I would've flat ### told you in 6 months you will be gone, washed up, and working fast food or something else to get out of trucking.
Now then you're criticizing me also for wanting to say that trucking is great and not telling a new CDL holder what to expect? Alright so what you think we should do is tell everybody that goes to cdl school and is flat out IMO lied too most of the time how great trucking is. Do you own a calculator? What is 40,000/(70x50) that's your hourly wage in trucking running OTR if you're lucky as a rookie. Now then as for your flat out personal attack about me being a fat whatever and having dog #### in my cab. Just wow. I'm 5'10" and 110lbs yep I'm real fat. As for the dog #### in my cab, my dog doesn't ride with me, he's been in my tractor once and locked me out which put an end to that right there. Yea my cab isn't the cleanest or most organized. But there isn't trash laying all over and #### all over the floor. Next thing you know you're going to call me trailer trash. Go ahead I live in a trailer park no skin off my back.crabcracker Thanks this. -
I see 2 posts that shouldn't be in this thread!
Good thing our OP has a good attitude and has already discovered there are drivers with "attitude" out here!!!!truckon and crabcracker Thank this. -
Things look different from up stairs.

Good luck to the OP. Lots of things she will experience out on the road that can only be explained til you actually experience them ,
....she will handle them hopefully in a professional manner and keep her sights high. Trucking just like any other career has its rough spots , but it , like anything else can be as rewarding or as terrible as the individual cares to make it.otherhalftw Thanks this. -

You have opened the door... Time to step through it now!
Congratulations and continued success.krazyhorsechick Thanks this. -
Congrats!
Don't quit until you have at least 6 months under your belt. That way you are at least hireable if you decide to come back to it within a couple of years. I run into a lot of folks who get frustrated and walk away after one or two months. Bad call, there. Few companies will touch you in that case. Swift and maybe one or two others.
Good luck to ya!
