Some sort of can, TP and extra garbage bags, make sure you can do your business without making a mess, then get that #### (no pun intended) out of your truck asap, possibly not doing any of the act inside the truck at all. Just don't be an animal ######## in your truck cause it's closer than the TS bathroom...

My lead driver got sick at Grand Island, NE. Our employer gave permission for him to take a taxi to a clinic while I pulled loads from the ammo plant to the truck stop. A couple of days later, he was ready to work again. He had a motel room while I slept in the truck.

BTW you will become best friends with any Urgent Care center. I found out about this when company wanted me to go to an Urgent Care to renew my medical card. There are all over the US and usually have a shoulder or open parking lot to fit a truck. A lot of them are open every day. I had all of these worries and questions when I was new too, and the good news is that pretty much everything you do at home you can find a substitute for on the road.

I've been sick twice while on the road, the first time my company was rude to my wife who was trying to figure out if I was alright. I left that company soon after that, no one ever said it was wrong for the dispatcher to be as rude as she was to my wife.

The second time the company bent over backwards to help, they provided help through another driver who was near by and called my wife to tell her what was going on.

I read somewhere that a guy had complied a simple one page list of phone numbers, access codes (driver and truck codes), insurance numbers, license/truck number company contacts for his family to have. I did the same and this way my wife doesn't have to go into a panic without knowing who to call or what to ask. I added on the other side of the page what to do in case of an accident or if I end up in the hospital.

Getting sick while on the road can be a problem. Minor illness means you run with it. Major is different. The problem is your dispatcher hears these sob stories all day long, from drivers who have to get home "now" because Aunt Millie's dog died, to being upset and cannot drive today.

Good question, thanks for asking it. I thought about that too. I guess flu shots are a good idea too.

I was wondering what happens if your parent gets really sick and is dying or dies? Is the company usually sympathetic to those circumstances?

I got sick once, spent a week in hospital 3 months on medical leave. When my company found out the date I was able to return, they fired me.
