i have a 2000 w9 with 3406e cat blew the turbo gasket today and after removing the turbo found that the exhaust side was cracked internally. Is there a acceptable tolerance for this or just replace

Do you mean the manifold divider was cracked or the turbo exhaust housing was cracked? Either way if it is starting to crack, those pieces will come off and take out your turbo. The later C15's were known for the manifold dividers eroding, not sure if this was a common issue with the older ones though...

If the turbo is cracked replace it. Also check inside of the manifold as well as they are also known to crack.

I had one on a 5ek that was cracked. Had driver go to turbo supply in Joplin. They inspected sand blasted and painted exhaust housing for 150. Best deal I can think of.

How did that fix the crack?

I can wire brush mine and slap some flat black BBQ paint on for the price of a qt. of paint.

Bought one that wasn't cracked and they put it under microscope and checked to be sure
