My husband has currently started attending a CDL training school in Jackson,TN. He wants to drive flatbed. He has applied at TMC and is hoping to hear back from them this next week as that is where we would love to see him go. What are some other flatbed companies that would be good to work for? We live in Middle TN.
Husband is new to trucking.

Maverick or Boyd Brothers or perhaps Builders Transport but TMC would be my first choice.

Melton, ATS, or maybe even systems be my choices before TMC
Chinatown Thanks this. -
R.E. West, headquartered in Lebanon, TN has a flatbed division.
Melton Truck Lines (fantastic healthcare benefits & drivers average $50K per year) -
I would say Melton too just by talking to some of their drivers
just hope he is ready to join a whole new world

Thank you all! He is definitely ready! He has wanted to be a truck driver since we got married 10 years ago just never did it until here recently we decided to go for it. He's been around trucks and been on the road in one with his friend many different times and enjoyed it. He's definitely ready for a change though and I think he will do great!

TMC would probably have him home weekly which is worth a lot. Hopefully he'll think about what might be the best JOB and not fall for the "lifestyle" which is a complete dead end in my opinion. Good luck.

Melton has a rider program also, if you want to go with him.

Melton now requires 6 months experience to get behind the wheel of their trucks. It has to be verifiable OTR experience.

Any of the above incl your choice & Gypsum Express is another, Stay away fm Western Express when first enter this forum last yr..I started working for them they pay veterans the same as rookies & their hometime as horrible..there out of Nashville by the way..they dispatch you like you're hauling a dry van, their trucks are geared too slow to handle the steep grades on the highways & you're always out of hrs, I had one of old 06 Internationals & it ran better & faster than Cascadias w/elogs (I was still on paper logs) but even as a rookie avoid Western at all cost...& P & S in Birmingham Al as well when I was in Philly Nov of last yr the driver fm P & S said he was making good money on percentage & take home was $800 a wk but by the time I got to New Orleans Fri b4 Xmas another P & S driver tarping his load beside me told me that all changed when they merged w/one company & bought out PJ Kennedy in Kearny NJ whose drivers made good money like SMX out of Ft Dodge Iowa B4 Western bought them out even talk to fmr drivers within a year's period of time telling me the same thing.....Ironically P & S was started by fmr Western Express drivers....So I'll tell any driver out there experienced or not stay away fm these guys, they'll do more harm than good to your CSA score on whatever you can name to mess it up....Nuff Said!!!
