Hello all, I recieved my CDL Class A license in 2008 with no endorsements. Not too long after recieving it I changed my mind and decided to pursue another career. Now I feel like I am ready to get out on the road and make some money. I would like to do local but, from what I've read companies often hire newbies for OTR. I havent talked with any companies yet but I thinking since its been so long since I've graduated with my CDL that I might have to retake the course again. I think a refresher would do. Has anyone or know anyone that was in my situation? If so, any input would do on which route to take.

Maverick hires without schooling depending on where you live. They have refridgerated and flatbed division.

    Yes, apply with Maverick.

Paschall Truck Lines might hire you and run you through their refresher course.

    Apply with Schneider also.

If no luck with those companies apply with these:

    Swift
    Prime Inc.
    Central Refrigerated

You want to make some good money, you need endorsements: tanker/hazmat, TWIC, passport. With these you can bring home over a grand a week. Google will show you the nearest TWIC office.

    HotH2o and VAladytrucker Thank this.

It must depend on the state. When I got my NC CDL in 2009, it was good until 2017 (yep, that's accurate). When I transferred it to Alabama this year, it's good until 2015.

I am in the exact same situation you are. I also got my CDL back in 2008 but I had some medical stuff happen and was not able to use my CDL until recently. I have been told by every company that either I go back through the entire CDL school again or I don't go trucking. I still have my CDL because I just kept getting the DOT medical cert. because I was afraid to drop my CDL. Now I am glad I kept it but I am having problems finding a company who will allow me to enter their school without having to pay for the physical out of my pocket again. Just a heads up for you. I also lost over 7 years of my driving experience when I got out of the military because no company will accept the driving experience because they say its not verifiable which is making me start from day 1 all over again.

How much does a passport, twic tanker and hazmat all cost out of pocket?
