in the old days if you hauled swinging meat and produce the shippers and rec. didnt give a crap how tired you were they wanted there freight. and the worst part your company could care less about your sleep habits you either del. on time or they would not load you. i had seven trucks on the road in the 70s and the worst thing a driver could tell me was (i run legal by the book.) now fast forward 35 years with E-logs your have a mandatory 10 break every day. if the driver plays video games, watches movies, texts,or sits in the t/s and tries to impress other drivers about his driving skills, yeah he is going to be tired. besides learning how to drive the truck in a safe manner routeing and time management are the three hardest things to learn. lots of luck

Thank you for clarifying. Sounds like just about any other job where you're working 12 hour days. I plan on doing OTR trucking, so I should be good on the sleep. Glad conditions have improved for truckers over the years.

Glad they added that 10 hour break. I wouldn't do it, otherwise. I ran my own business before this, so I shouldn't have too much of a problem with time management.

There is no use arguing with the mindless who work for peanuts with a tracking chip implanted in their rear ends. But it can be entertaining!

They either bs the clock at the shipper/consignee or just watch gay porn for 10 hours straight! but they wont admit it.....

There has been times I drove tired. It didn't start out that way.But certain foods or drinks can make you extremely tired. Then I pull off either to the nearest exit ramp or trk stop and rest my eyes.I will never continue to drive if im tired.I now do only 2 rounds rather then 3 because by the time the second round is almost done im just too tired to do a third.Eight hrs at my job is plenty.Frenchfry don't ever let your company intimidate you into driving when you're tired. The pay these companies give the drivers, just isn't worth doing any extra favors for them.

No one can tell you just how much sleep you'll need.....we are all different...some days all you need is a couple hours of sleep...some days you'll sleep all day if you can...we're human. The main thing for you as a rookie/student is remember to let your body get acclimated to your new lifestyle , it will take awhile too , but your body will usually let you know when it's time to stop...always , always , always...did I say always listen to it. There is absolutely no load/appointment time/or job worth loosing your life over , or going to sleep and leaving the road , loosing control and killing someone. You DO have COMPLETE and TOTAL control over this...never let anyone tell you anything different either....and believe this.... they are gonna try. Once you decide to push your body past it's limits it WILL shut-down on you...and you'll never realize til it's too late.

I'm retired now..and I drove for the same folks for over 30 years..was I asked/expected to run past the allowed time a few times...yep , I sure was...did I do it yep , I sure did...but those were different days....did I ever drive when I was knowingly too tired/sleepy to drive..no sir I did not...My 30+years of safe accident free driving will attest to that fact....Just use some common sense in your decision making when it come to driving/running hard....never try to out-do yourself...Be Safe.....

Um, if you're driving until you can no longer keep your eyes open, you are driving too tired, lol.

I have worked as a welder,a roofer, and in a sawmill before what I'm doing now. Everything before Trucking I have had days where I have worked dead-dog tired (for whatever reason) and Trucking is NO different.

However..As there are no "Do-Overs" on the Highway when a mistake is made-If I start seeing my version of the 'Black Dog' I will pull over and take a 1-2 hour nap. Broker and dispatcher appointments be ######..
