Now that you mentioned it, how do you like working for Schneider's? I guess I could google them like I did with Stevens Transport, but I take it BB King is doing good. I'm glad I read his and your posted notes because Stevens Transport recruiters were calling me at the time and I just let it rang. I did sign up with them last week at a job fair in Denver cause it looked interesting and I need a job..... Mahalo (thanks) for the heads up note.

Funny thing you should say that. This industry doesn't hve people stuck at any company. Other compnies will pick up the training tab. I can safely say that most of Stevens drivers at Stevens are satisfied enough to stay a short while.
As for owner operators just think back to the farmhand story in the bible about being upset with wages. Stevens pays me what we agree on foe my loads. I frank don't care what they're making so long as they pay me what we agreed.
Imaginary money and imaginary statics are both useless. If most of Stevens drivers are unsatisfied then why do they work there? -
well because most of them bought the crap Stevens was shoveling and signed on for 1 year.
now they can't leave without screwing them selves. you can say what you want but how many drivers on here or at the truck stops have some thing good to say about Stevens ?
I rest my case. -
1992 I graduated out of a state operated school, my first stop was Steven's which if they had their way, would have been the last in my career as a professional driver.
The first trainer left me standing in the parking lot of the Petro in Amarillo, TX.
The second trainer in my opinion should be a model for any and all trainers in the field. Mike M. took the time to train, not just preach or yell because he could, but really educate new drivers on how to properly operate a tractor-trailer. He wasn't nearly concerned with teaching the paperwork as he was teaching you the ropes to safe driving. ** Thanks Mike (Iron Horse) where ever you may be now.** <-- I will forever be in your debt for your training. -->
I won't coat this with sugar, we had our moments, two grown men in a Kenworth 600 non-integral cab, spring ride (NOT AIR RIDE) wasn't a personification of two happy campers. There were times when we both thought of killing the other, but those times passed and I made it as did he.
Office personell was a different story, apparently from the what I've read here, they still lack the common decency of a badger caught in a forest fire.
Anyway, back to the events that led me away from Stevens
I called home and found out that my father was extremely ill, he had a 50/50 chance of surviving.
I then called my FM "Bill M." which I think is still there, and told him I needed to get home due to family illness. He accused me of lying over the phone and I needed to take dispatch and continue driving.
I told him that I was going to get home and I needed him to help me with that need. He accused me again of lying and that he had no intention of getting me home.
I advised him effective immediately that I wanted to get the truck to the nearest terminal for me to effectivley resign as a driver for Stevens. He laughed and told me that I had just "nailed my coffin shut" of ever driving for another company. I told him that was a chance I'm willing to take, my father and me being by my family's side was more imporatant than anything he might do to my career.
I was advised by "Walt"? The name evades me, that I had permission to drop tractor-trailer upon delivery in Charlotte, NC to a secured lot in Atlanta, GA. 360 miles from my home, at the time, they had a yard in Eagle Springs/Nest or whatever 50 miles from my home.
Their truck, their equipment, so I dropped where they wanted it. If I had known I was going to be charged with truck abandoment even if I had dropped the #### thing in his office, I would have parked it in my driveway and let them figure it out.
They reported to DAC that I had abandoned their equipment. (which I think is a laugh of bad information, why they haven't had their doors shut tight for disseminating false information is beyond me.)
Still I found employment shortly after my father recovered from his illness aside the events and the false accusations.
However in 2001 for whatever reason, hard times, low cash flow, Stevens sent me a letter advising me that I owed them money for an accident, supposedly almost a decade previous. Although up to 2006 I'd never had an accident with any equipment, let alone theirs.
After I made a few phone calls to various people in and about Dallas, TX they changed their story and said that it was a mix up in names. Go figure. I have my own speculations but will keep them to vest since they ARE only speculations.
I guess what's surprising to me is how certain people can sleep at night, assuming they sleep at all. Personally I'd find it hard to sleep having done some of the things I've seen various companies do.
I guess that's how some people make it to where they are, #### with everyone else, as long as "ME ME ME" is covered, no one else matters.
Personally, I enjoy knowing if I die typing this post, I'll die knowing I've done right by people. I'd imagine it's a terrible thing to have haunting thoughts as you lay dying. It gives me the "shivers" I tell you.
Good luck to all who choose and continue to work with Stevens.
As far as Steve Arron's daughter... I have never met her, I can only assume the old saying is true. "The apple never falls far from the tree."Drive-a-Mack Thanks this. -

I am very dissapointed in this company, how they lied and treated my friends. Stevens you folks need to Qualify your Trainers. I told my friends that trucking would afford them a nice living as a team and they believed me. Thats when they came to your company for a new career. This is what your company provided to them. A promise to get their CDL at a cost of ruffly $5,000.00 each. Then Training with a certified trainer after CDL training completed. My friend said his trainer would not let him drive his new leased Kenworth. Said he had to sit in the passengers seat for two days on a trip to California. He was not allowed to talk on his cell phone, listen to the radio while in the passenger seat for two days. He had to sleep with one blanket in 10 degree weather and said he froze all night long. The trainer told him he would not run the truck at night, that he needed to get more blankets. The trainer had alot of blankets to include an electric blanket and did not offer my friend one of his extra blankets. My friend was forced to listen to Loud Gangster Rap the entire two days while in the passenger seat or listen to the trainer talk to his friends on two different cell phones. The trainer told my friend that he will not stop the truck to eat and when they stopped for a shower that my friend only has 10 minutes to shower. My friend said he could not take this abuse any longer and told the trainer he wanted out of the truck. The trainer took my friend to a hotel ,parked the truck in the middle of the highway, and threw his belongings out onto the street and told him good luck, shut the door and left my friend picking up his stuff in the road in front of the hotel. My friend said they had to sign a paper stating Stevens had kept all promises to them and has been receiving calls from the finance company that paid Stevens for their CDL class. I would advise all my friends to stay way away from this company. Stevens you have received your money at my freinds expense he nor his wife completed the training with their trainers because the way they were treated. Speaking of my friends wife she said she never left the yard with her trainer. She said she had the female version of her husband's trainer and made her decision to get out before they left. Now they are both home, no job, no money, behind on bills, and now they owe you for nothing ($5,000.00 each). I paid $814.00 for CDL school at a local community college plus $100.00 for the driving test for my wife. How can you folks ruin something so promising to good people like my friends that I talked into starting a trucking career? I will share this story with all my freinds and family so when they see one of your trucks on the highways they will know what kind of outfit you folks are. I will encourage them to share this story with their friends and family as well. I don't know for a fact that this story is true there are always two sides to every story. It is my belief that my friends would not lie to me and make up this story therefore I believe them and believe this did happen to them.
