It's in my truck but I do have the independent shops number in my phone.
if you have a egr motor 14L the prices you have are close I was thinking you had a pre EGR motor

Pitts power is pricey, but i've heard they dot he best. That's where im taking mine when it needs it. If your getting an inframe your prob want to reprogram ur computer, add some exast manifolds on, get a new turbo if its pretty old. They have all that stuff you can get done with it.

Here's another thought: Low mileage pull out from salvage yard. You and a few buddies can do a swap in a couple days if you get after it..
You could hear it run and verify the ecm at the yard......
Jus sayin....Tobytob Thanks this. -
I will give Pittsburgh power a call on Monday to get a quote on a rebuild. I've heard they do a great job and have a warranty behind every part. Expensive, but i was told it worth every penny!! Im also thinking about a low mileage Engine swap, just have to find a decent one. Thank for all the help

I wouldn't do it in phases it won't be any cheaper. If you do the bottom end first when it comes time to do top you still got to pull pan again to get liners out. Not to mention when you get new pistons the brgs will already be shapped to old rods increasing chance of spinning a brg. The reason dealerships charge so much is they charge double the hours that it takes this way it covers there labour time if something happens down the road. Its kinda a rip off but really theres no other way.

Bottom and top are done at the same time, no matter what. The only thing that wouldn't overlap is the main bearings, you can do those separately but there's no point in taking the oil pan and oil pump off twice. Rod bearings all need to come apart during the inframe anyways.

If you are going to keep the truck I would recommend a reman from Detroit, installed by one of their shops or the shop of your choice. I did it 450,000 miles ago on a Freightliner with right at a million miles on it, cost about $23K out the door, best thing i EVER did in the 35 years in the business. Included new clutch, and most new/reman accessories. 3 year/300,000 warrantee. If your engine presently has over 1 million on it Detroit shops will no longer warrantee the rebuild.
Do not attempt to do a rebuild in "pieces". Borrow the money, whatever and you will be a happy profitable owner for years to come...
Think about it. Compare the quality of a job a mechanic do crawling around on his back doing an inframe vs taking the engine out, having a clean factory completely disassemble the engine right down to the naked block, check all the parts with the latest technology, and reassemble exactly like a new engine.
Besides, an inframe doesn't usually include any repair on the bull gear, a critical part over time. If it does, it will approach the cost of the reman. -
Studebaker, you make a lot of sense! I'm going to look into investing into a reman. Wont hurt to have a brand new motor in this thing again.
