Some time ago the police busted a scam in the UK.
What they did was not use 1 but 2 cars.
Car A and B come in front off truck in busy traffic.
Close but not really cutting the truck up.
Car A then slams the brakes full on.
Car B reacts and also goes full on brakes but missing car A.
Now the truck behind car B cannot stop in time (remember the didn't leave enough room when they came in front off the truck) and strikes car B.
Car A speeds off and the truckdriver is left with an insurance claim as car B has several passengers that are "injured"(the usual back and neckpain)

The could bust those guys because the truck had a dashcam and the licenceplate off car A was visible on the images.
The reason for 2 cars was so that the car having the "accident" couldn't be marked as being the one who caused the "accident".

Hehe, yeah, I am selling one of the older utility reefers. You must see it at my drop yard off of I-5. Hope Sam is treating you right. I ended up burning my bridge with him, but it was necessary as I was preparing to sue the company for failure to pay. They owed me $16,000 without a payment, then after 3 months of threats I laid my cards on the table and gave him 24 hours to pay or I would file on him the next day... It was a legit claim, I was in the right, so they wised up and paid. I normally don't get that extended on accounts receivables, but that's a well known, (formerly) trusted company. It was a shock to say the least, but that's what this economy does to folks sometimes I guess. Strange how I always pay my bills on time though.

I've got one sitting at home, that's used. Needs some tweaking. Not the cleanest system but it worked. I really didn't need it. got it from diesel boss http://www.dieselboss.com/camera/camera_rear_view_truck.htm I have 3 camera's with it. Don't need it.

I think that I will buy the same camera for the same reasons. Thank you very much for the schooling, and the knowledge and resources to protect myself.
I sure hope that I never have to use mine to protect myself like this. As I also hope that you never have to use yours this way again.
    Best wishes!

Man, I don't know how to tell you to proceed but I sure hope you nail his arse to the wall. That's ridiculous. I'm curious what his story was before he realized you had the cam.

There is a guy on Youtube called Techmoan. He is from the UK and does reviews on lots of those dashcams. You can get some slick ones that are cheap but get the job done. Others like the action cam style, can also be programmed to work as a dashcam, but usually cost more. If you are interested in dash cams, I would look for his channel on youtube and check out his reviews. Unless you can't stand hearing a British accent for extended periods of time..

He imports lots of them from the US or china, heck I think he has even review the ones that thay have at some of the truck stops, since they are just rebranded chinese versions.

It helps to read the entire thread.

Anyhoo...I have the same dashcam as you. I bought it after a couple performed a swoop and stop on me in L.A (Dad was driving, Mom was hanging out the sunroof recording, and the 6 year old kid was turned around in the back seat staring at me.) It scared the #### outta me, and 3 days later, I had the dashcam. There are always going to be armchair quaterbacks that will assert their professional opinion, but I think you did a good job. There are several videos on Youtube that shows the dashcam saving a drivers ###. They're pretty fun to watch when you're bored.

That was really smart of you. When the guy pulled over and immediately got out, I was worried you'd get out too. With people like that, you never know. The fact he was immediately out of the pickup says something too.

    On a sidenote...

For those that drive mainly (or a lot) at night, and need a dashcam that performs best under night/dark conditions, as well as in daylight, search for a quality dash cam that has a Sony Exmor R sensor. These sensors/chips are the newest technology and far outperform most other current dashcam optics in darkness.

I'm just beginning my search for this type of sensor myself and so far have only run across one dash cam brand some claim has it. I'd rather not post that brand until I verify it actually does have the Exmor R sensor.

You can read more on this high performing night sensor at Sony's website (link below):

A quick update on what is happening. I am back in CA and stopped by the San Bernardino CHP office to pick up a copy of my accident report and to drop off the copy of the dash cam recording. I asked the CHP officer at the window to please play the DVD to make sure it will run on their computers. He had an audience in no time and 3 more officers were watching the recording. I put the question out to all of them on how they would handle this accident without the recording? They pretty much agreed that I would be SOL without it. Also it was interesting to see and hear their reactions when they watched it.
At this point it is still an ongoing investigation and I hope with the video evidence I will be cleared and the other driver will be charged. On a side note I have to say that all CHP officers I have come in contact with have been extremely nice.

I will keep everybody posted on how things will progress since I feel that this could happen to any driver out there.
