Delivered this morning in Portland. Receiver was real nice, even helped me fold my tarps to save some time. After I put everything away, I hoppedin the truck and I had a preplan picking up in Cottage Grove, OR going to Gardena, CA first thing Wednesday morning. Load was a weather protect so I had both tarps put on top of the load in case the weather gets nasty. There were 2 other COTC trucks there who are going to the same place. Don't know what I'm doing after this, I'll call in tomorrow since I'll be at the receiver tomorrow evening. Asked for home time on the 30th because my other half bought us tickets to a concert that night. That will be the first big test. Driver coach sent me a message saying that I was in the system.

It's a lovely 90 degrees out here tonight in Redding, CA.

I've had most of my receivers help me fold tarps, even bored drivers, makes flatbedding so much easier.

I can see why they do it, it gets the drivers unloaded quicker and product put away faster. It's a win win for both sides. Won't miss that about dragging a box around.

Parked right outside the receiver in Gardena. Now I'll have a fresh clock to start with once I'm unloaded. Chalk one up for the good guys

Whats the idling policy at COTC??? Are they liberal about it?? Also, hows their insurance compared to your last company???

You'll run into the other side too. I've had receivers sit on the forklift and just watch as I pull and fold tarps in the wind. I get that's not part of their job but still at least go park out of site and be a pecker about it.

Don't ruin my honeymoon so soon, dangit!

Idle policy is something I'm not too fond of. It doesn't affect my truck, but all trucks 2014 and newer won't idle between 15-85. The 15 isn't bad since they all have bunk heaters, but the 85 is a stretch. 75 would be pushing it for me, but I'm a cold weather guy and could sweat if it was 50 out. That being said, all trucks older than 2014, just set the trailer brake and override the first idle shutdown, and you're good to go for the night. Had to do it last night in Redding because it was so dang hot.

As for insurance, I don't have it yet. It will kick in after 90 days and after that medical, dental, vision, and short term disability are free for the driver. Best price I've found so far. Any other dependents you will pay for. I don't know how much because it didn't affect me, but it was a big selling point for me. That's a couple grand a year in my pocket. Don't know how good the coverage is yet because of aforementioned reason.

Im pretty sure safety would let you idle if you gave them reason. PM inbound.

the no cost insurance to the driver is a rarity, and great benefit. However any company not using apu's now a days is just disappointing. Been watching their u-tube videos and do like how they have set up their tarp procedures, and the equiptment looks good. how are the trucks spec. out?

The no APU is disappointing and I used to have one so I'm a bit spoiled. The reason they don't have APU's is that the trucks are traded in so often. The one I'm in is close to on it's way out and it has 500k on her.

The trucks are straight 10 speeds with 450 ISX 15 engines. Some of the newer trucks have the Paccar engine. They had the low end torque turned up a bit so they can pull. I haven't dropped any lower than 8th going up any pass and the lightest I've been is 75k, all the while, averaging 7.3 MPG so far.
