don;t push yourself too far .....i thought insulin was the end of my career instead of the bump it will be ...should have my waiver in the mail this week if i would have planned for this process it would have been much smoother and could have skipped the week in intensive care but it sounds like you are doing much better 6.8 is a very good a1c hopefully the weight loss will aid you in regaining controll with less meds good luck

i wish the information on the waiver program was easier to find ....there is a lot of misinformation unfortunately the waiver is for two years ....still the same annual physical only change is that you must visit your endo every three months which is a good practice anyways and they have to fill out a form saying you are still in complience .....just the 4 months off work while the waiver is processed sucks the first time ...currently 1500 drivers have the waiver am hoping it will be a more streamlined process in the future as the safety data of insulin dep diabetics shows no increase in accidents when compared to the industry as an average

The question was asked about A1C. I did not see an answer. If I missed it sorry.
Your body produces red blood cells that live three to four months. The A1C measures the concentration of sugars in those cells. The number is a percentage. So my 9.8 means that my blood is very sweet. As the old cells die off and new ones are produced my A1C goes down. The target number is 6.5%. Mine went from 15% to 9.8% in three weeks. My vision is clearing up.
What really woke me up was finding out that diabetics lose their toes sometimes. My feet are so beautiful there has been talk about naming them a national treasure. -
what gives me cold chills is a neighbor that last her sight .....she did regular vision checks at a wm instead of the eye doc in town and i guess they were not regularly checking for degeneration (prob cause no insurance) guess you get what you pay for at wm ....than poof on the way home she lost sight in one eye and no way to recover

It starts with the toes, then they cut you off at the ankles and then the knees!

A diabetic has to be careful to any simple foot injury like stubbing a toe can turn to gang green due to poor circulation. -
There's a lot of info here along with the waivers.

just seems like i heard it over and over the last few years ...if i get put on insulin my career is over etc...
i know it is prob just lunch counter talk or hold overs from the day only a few years back when that was true but it was quite disheartening to be in the position of questioning whether the waiver was actually attainable (of course mine is in the mail as of wed) also not very much support out there from drivers that have got them in fact i have never met one ....that could also be due to the fact that insulin dep diabetics are a minority within a minority and being that there are only 1500 waivers issued and 1.5 million drivers if my math is correct that is only .1 percent of the driving population -
I couldn't see anything last night. I checked my sugar and hit a new record. 430
And I took a Metformin before dinner.
I popped another Metformin and a Glyburide after testing and it was 150 this morning. -
I'm consider driving for Prime. But as I read all the posts associated with their training programs, I am started to doubt I will pass their medical. Do you all know if they will test A1C levels at Prime or just a blood strip test? My sugar level has been about 200 during the day. I managed to stay at 120-140 zone. I am going to shoot for around mid Dec or January to apply with Prime. If you guys know anything about their medical consist of or what is their normal blood sugar level, please share what you know. I just read so many people get turned down. Wish everyone good health and good rest of the week. Thanks.
