Title says it.....I just got a new western star glider and can't seem to get above 4.8 mpg. (Last truck with nearly same specs was getting 5.6). So I wonder what y'all are getting. I haul 3 loads per night, usually in the hills of central pa.

There is a mechanical reason for your mileage. Check the usual suspects like CAC and pressure connections. Also, if the engine was a factory reman it will have the latest EPA settings and might need a reprogram to unlock fuel mileage. I had a 2007 Western Star with an ACERT Cat and got 6.2 pulling 1600 CF pneumatics.

I was getting 7.2 on the highway with a KW daycab that had a Cummins under the hood. If I ran nothing but city for the day, I was down to 5 mpg. There were no hills, just stop lights.

Thanks for the replies. This truck has a 3406e set at 550 HP, 13 SPD, 3.42 rears. Which I know is geared pretty tall for the application. My thought was because everything was freshly rebuilt it just needs more time to get broken in? It has 20000 miles as of now. When it was dyno'ed at the dealer the report showed 515 HP to the ground if that matters.

Running the hills a little slower will probably give you better fuel mileage. No reason to be in a race unless you are trying to get loaded before the plant closes. Been there, done that ;)

A boost gauge will help you get better fuel mileage. Engines like to not go over a certain amount of boost for best fuel economy.

Tried slowing down. Helped a little. Been driving like there's a rotten egg under the throttle. I really don't have a reason to be in a hurry, everywhere I go is open 24 he's.

I have a pyrometer and boost gauge. I try and keep the boost at 20 lbs or less and under 875 on the pyro
