This has been day four . The first day it was a bunch of paper work filling out etc. Drug test and dot physical . The second day class room time .We mostly did logs and had a visitor come in from the tn state trooper. He was funny. Then the next day we did range training a lot of backing up , mostly straight line backing . I did ok on it I guess. Then today we did more backing skills like parallel parking . Im getting ready to go home soon thou

That school is nothing but bs. Excuse my language. They only have two instructors for 50 students. I wish I would have picked a better school than going all the way to Tn. I had to walk from millington to memphis a couple of days ago. Because swifty said they was not going to get me a way home. luckly my dad sent me some money for a bus ticket home. I got another job thank god. It may only pay mininmum wage but at least I have a job. I hope anyone who goes to any trucking company school thinks twice about it before they go. So you wont make the same mistake I did .

Be prepared to spend most of your driving career dirty. Flatbed pays more cuz most people don't want to tarp in the wind and the rain and the snow.

If you're up to it, though - more power to ya. The industry always needs good flatbed drivers.

Honestly, from some of your other posts I think you turned to this industry in desperation. That's not what driving is for. You need to plan and be ready for this change, not jump to it just because you can't find a job anywhete else.

I spent 5 months preparing to go to school to make sure my bills were paid through schooling and OTR training. I learned a lot in Millington and have been driving for Swift for almost a year now.

Take your minimum wage job and get your act together. If your lo e of tbe road brings you back to driving, do it with a plan. Otherwise, thank your lucky stars you got out before you got yourself deep into debt and a job you don't belong in.

How was the training at Millington? Do they have decent equipment, or give you time to learn the maneuvers they are teaching? Do you have somewhat quality time with the instructor, and also, how are the hotels they put you in? Do you have a single room or a roommate?

I can't tell you anything about Millington except that the equipment will be similar to what you will get when you go solo. The truck may be somewhat older, but will still be useable.

The hotels will not be 4 star or even 3, Swift obviously goes for the lowest bidder. When Swift contracts for the room, you will always have a room mate, unless you are the next room to get a room mate. Even when you put your truck in the shop, if Swift is paying, you will have a room mate or the possibility of one coming in at some strange hour in the morning. If, after you go solo, you want a room to yourself, you can pay for half while Swift pays the other half.
