ok guys I have a dripping oil leak on a 2000 n14 celect plus engine looks pretty simple to fix but I wanted a little more insight on this repair before heading at it like Sammy the bull.

on the driver side of the engine there a 3 covers which are supposedly described to be the pushrod inspection covers? they are rectangular in shape and have 6 bolts holding them to the block. now the 2 covers to rear of engine are fine and not leaking whatsoever, but I am leaking from the cover to the front of the motor the one which is also locted behind where the fuel pump and air compressor mount to the front timing cover. Engine has no blowby its just dripping while running from that cover.

now its real tight are to work around but it looks as if I could get the bolts out that hold the cover I could just slide cover off and regasket it and reinstall my main concern is if I can get a wrench behind are as on my setup there are only 3 hard to get bolts the 3 lower ones are accessible.

My question is can this cover be pulled off without taking off air compressor and fuel pump mount? can I just pull cover off by lossening screws? someone told me that if that cover is removed the engine needs to be retimed and adjusted???? I don't see why if theyre only inspection covers and don't hold the pushrods in then WHY?

Also is there somesort of oil pressure vein in block by this cover which is making such a mess cuase it has pressure? or is it just oil splash from down the inside of the block running down.

Any help or suggestions would be great people say its not a simple fix to me it looks like I will have more of a hassle lossening the bolts then actually changing gasket.

    please help

It's not just a cover, there are rollers on the inside. If you can find the same thicknes gasket you can take it of. If not leave it, you will mess up the camm timing, unless you want to retime it.

The valve cover rocker box rockers and push tubes need too come out top first, then oil pump as cover won't just slide out side ways. Using exact thickness of gasket is crucial as previous post says it will effect timing. overhead will also need set. Lots ft time bolts just vibrate loose a good tightening makes it a liveable leak

is the reason why it leaks us because it has a paper gasket or shim? so if they are loose I can try tigetening them back up is that because they have metal shim to guage thickness? So Im pretty much stoch with this leak your telling me? I wont be able to do this job with out pulling out pushrods and redoing the overhead on engine and setting cam timing wowwwww...... does this cover in the location im speaking of behind the compressor just slide off or is there a lip on the inside that will keep it from being pulled off engine while compressor is still mounted? (does this mean that the whole compressor/fuel pump assembly has to come completely off motor in order to do this job?)

im about to try tigetening the bolts to see if they are loose and then just globbing some ultra black silicone on the bottom of cover if that's the case to have it worked on, it looks so easy to change.

Those cam followers are on a small dowel, you really can't slide them. The cam rollers are attached to these plates. I would try to tighten the bolts and see how it is.

just my luck I will try my hand at tightening them I guess,,,,this sucks. either that or imam have to hit it up on the weekend with some brke cleaner and like I said gunk the crap outta the bottom of that once cover, stupid thing is its only leaking on that one cover.

is this a common problem for these engines?
