you can try getting one of those metal mounting brackets and hanging it from the overhead. Use the heavy duty zipties to secure it to the overhang and run the wires out to the radio. If you are concerned about a clean look install, try using a fine band saw and cutting out just enough space for the wires to drop down and to the radio. -
The Freightshaker Columbia I drive has a hole in the overhead console for the CB. I use a Galaxy 88 with the side mounted mic, so this was also a challenge for me.
I've never set foot in a KW so my method my not work for you, but, since automotive and truck designers think somewhat alike, there's probably similarities in the set up.
I removed the trim that surrounds the radio. I then pushed the front of the radio through the trim from the back side until the mic mount was flush against the inside of the trim. I had to shave a bit from the opening so the radio would fit, tightly.
On the FL there was enough of a gap at the top of the radio to allow the mic cord to pass through. I hope you're that lucky. If not you'll have to do some "engineering" in that area.
I then reattached the surround trim, with the radio poking it's pretty face out through the trim. Mission accomplished, and it looks like "factory".
The FL also has another opening that when the trim is removed allows you to have access to the back of the radio without removing it. That helped me a bunch. -
i also drive a columbia same problem with my 959 galaxy so i took the mounting bracket and bolted underneath where the airfins are to let air get to radio and sound from speaker through and works well for my dx 93 i just got as well
