I don't like that idea, train with Swift then dump them. Kind of ripping them off. Is that what you want to contribute to the professional driving community? Do unto others, yo. They'll make a nasty entry in your DAC report, you can look forward to that. What about this: train/school with Swift, drive for them for a year, and then take the skills and experience you got with Swift to qualify for a better job? Swift is cheap, true. Ask yourself this: in a lineup of 100 drivers, what number would your existing skills and experience put you on that list? Any way you can get into a truck and get enough miles to become a driver, that's what you should be doing. Start with step #1, don't be looking down the road yet. You have a lot to learn. If Swift will give you a truck, consider saying "thank you for the opportunity."

Yeah, slow down bro......think about this.....try to find someone you know who has a truck. See if they will accompany you to the DMV to do your CDL road test. Go to your local DMV get the CDL handbook, study for exam, take the exam at the DMV (COMPUTERIZED) and you should pay about $100 for your CDL permit, maybe less, I don't know anymore. Then go do your road test and boom, you have a CDL. If you have it for less than 6 months, any company is gonna make go do training with a trainer anyway. But atleast that way, you don't have to pay $900-1600 to some CDL school just to use their truck. you can give a local guy $100-200 to accompany you with his truck to the DMV. DO YOUR RESEARCH... DON'T JUST DIVE INTO THE POOL, THERE MIGHT BE CRABS. #PROTECTION

@don....well I already have my permit. I took the tests at the dmv and scored a %100.....costs me $148.

And as far as driven test goes. I've never driven a truck before, so this company is charging me $580 for 5 hours of test driving and then the DMV test. Its not really a bad price considering. I went to another place and they wanted like $1600 for 30 hours of classroom time (which i dont need because i already have the permit) and 6 hours of test driving. plus one dmv road test.

Recent students have posted that Swift asked them at the end of school if they plan to stay or not & they posted that if they leave they are billed for the school. I haven't work for Swift, so I don't know from personal experience, only what I have learned on this forum about the company. Seems like a good company to get started with, in my opinion.

Whoa! Did you tell them you only had a permit, or did the recruiter rush over that past and think you already have a cdl?
Swift does have a driving academy... did you tell them you needed cdl school?

No they know that I only have a permit. They are pushing my paperwork now tho in order to check on the background check. So nobodys time is wasted. The recruiter told me as soon as I get my actual cdl to let him know then they will set up my orientation appointment

Have you checked with your local community colleges? Some have CDL schools, and they are reputable. You don't want to go just anywhere to get your training. No good will come of rushing through this. Whether you get your CDL through a driving school or through a training company such as Swift, it will take time.

This cat is getting some great advice. Just hope he uses it. There is NO quick way to becoming a professional driver. It takes time , a good work ethic/attitude and lots of patience.
