Got my AZ CDL License with endorsements. Got my T for Wiggle Wagons and the X for HazMat and Tankers. Does grouping HazMat and Tankers together mean anything or is X just easier to do for CDL purposes?

Probably just easier as far as I know.

It's easier for CDL purposes.
I used to have X endorsement years ago. After 9/11 happened, they started charging for HazMat background check (Homeland Security). Since I didn't need it, I let the HaxMat go and now it is just T for tankers. -
I have my H endorsement on my CDL, do I have to take the TSA fingerprints again to get my X endorsement?

If you want to add tankers you do. For the X endorsement that is.
Everything changed after 9-11 and frankly it's closing the barn after the horse has long since left before the cart.
Im happy to do without it. They never pay a penny more for that anyway. -
If you want hazmat yes you have to get fingerprinted and a background check.

Because of that Haz-Mat endorsement expiring when your current CDL expires, I would say generally you can, but the X will only be valid until that original expiry date. In any event, you should physically go inside your local DMV ready to test and see what they do. Any other comment made by me not knowing your location or time left on your CDL would just be a guess.

If you want to renew hazat when you renew your license, then you will need to get the background check and finger prints a couple of weeks ahead of time.

You already have the "H" (Hazmat) endorsement so all you need to do is pass the tanker test to get that changed to the "X".
Every time you renew your license you will have to go through the whole hazmat deal again-test and fingerprinting/background check.Dave_in_AZ Thanks this. -
I didn't have to do the hazmat recertification at TSA last time I renewed.
You do have to pass the hazmat test at ADOT.
I'm coming up to renew my cdl in June, see if anything has changed.
