What does a "new president" have to do with better conditions and better pay?
If 1/2 the drivers would refuse to work for peanuts and refuse to be treated like a seat-warmer....hell if they quit ACTING like seat-warmers, pay and conditions would improve.

if there's a shortage then freight rates wouldn't still be at 1970's rate.

    You are absolutely correct!

I think it would take more 2 to 5 days to really get the point across. Just my thinking on the matter. 1 day is surviveable. 5 days would have the whole country begging the truck driver to go back to work. "We'll give you what ever you want just please haul some milk, gasoline and groceries."

Yea I think your right I wasn't really thinking about it that hard. But really what would they do cause If they fired company truck drivers they would have to go get the trucks and plus nothing would get moved. So they would have to do something.

You might be ready but many other young drivers are not..don't take offense I'm just looking at it from experience.

Most construction companies I know won't let anyone with under 5 years driving experience on "flat racks" even touch a Class 'A' rig like a Ten wheeler let alone an end dump or low bed. Back when I started out, the youngest low bed driver I knew of was at least around 40 years old. And that before people started to see $$$$$ on the doors of the rigs instead of the name.

That's what "they're" after but look at Europe for example. Common currency, free trade ect... but the European stock markets are falling flatter than a cheap re-tread. I think most Americans aren't buying into NAFTA, especially the trucking aspect. More and more we're going to see and hear about Mexican truckers who exceed HOS and wind up wiping out Families just like what happened on the 5 near Mission Viejo at the 5 and 73 junction.

Drivers who work for Hunt or Swift complain about their mileage pay, just imagine what those Mexican drivers are getting paid....S&^%! But that's what they do in every job because that's more than they'll get picking lettuce or strawberry's in Modesto.

These guys are hungry that's why in my present industry they'll run a dump truck for $50 a load no matter how far or run at $45-$50 an hour for a Super Ten when that rate should be at least $85 per hour. some know their under-cutting but some just have to eat..you can't blame Mexico's poor because they're not the ones who caused the problem.

I still say that we should build a moat and while we're at, vote out the ######## who won't enforce the laws we already have on the books. That's a start.

I think you're giving the masses way too much credit. In as much as I admire optimism, (I suffer myself) I doubt the average American has a clue about this issue.
