you should read my post in regards to military veterans and swift academy, i do agree the school and instructors were great and the academy was quite exceptional...but, im a military veteran like you that was attending the school under their veterans scholarship...which meant i wouldn't have to pay anything as well and i would have to stay with the company for a year...
i just got out the military june 3rd this year and attended swift school in texas in july...the website for swift and the recruiter doesn't tell you, is that you aren't approved for the actual veteran scholarship yet...when you get to day one of the academy, you will have to fill out another application for the veteran scholarship and they will send it up to see if it gets approved...but guess what? their is more stipulations to the requirements this time around...you have to have been out the military 30 months or more [i was only out around 60 days at the time], and you have to have exhausted all of your educational benefits from the post 911 g.i. bill and never have used the montgomery g.i. bill...i havent used any of my educational benefits yet, so that was strike 2 for me...i got heated when i found out all this so the staff at the swift academy actually helped me send up all my paperwork to arizona, thats where head quarters is, and basically start fighting for my veteran package they promised me...good luck with yours, but just remember...you actually haven't been approved for anything yet...your basically just qualified for it, you will find out when you get to phoenix if you will actually get the veteran scholarship or not...and in the mean time while you are waiting, in order to finish and continue with the school they will make you sign the same financing and loan documents that the other students are signing as well...so if your veteran package isn't approved you will be stuck with the school tuition if you leave swift after school...or you will have $75 a week taken out of your pay check if you stay with swift after school..don't give up, fight for your veteran scholarship, i eventually got mine have weeks of bull ####

Use your gi bill for your own school so you dont owe a year to a company
This is what I did and then went to swift
I made it 9 months with swift then left for a local driving jobPhatpope Thanks this. -

i think i did read your post. was very informative. i was retired this rebruary myself. ill just tell them i gave the gi bill to my wife. lol cant do #### then

that may not work because it states you have to have used up all of the benefits, transferring it isn't technically using it up...but good luck and don't let them scam you out your veteran package...still you haven't been out longer than 30 months also, that was the other requirement
-
Must be a swift requirement.

it's a swift requirement in order to receive their veteran scholarship, swifts veteran scholarship has nothing to so with the veterans assistance or post 911 gi bill, now he could pay for the school with the post 911 gi bill but it sounds like he isn't going that route...sounds like he opted to get free school through swifts veteran scholarship which requires 30 months or longer out of service and exhausted all educational benefits..they offer the veteran scholarship to veterans who exhausted their post 911 gi bill because they can't use post 911 gi bill to pay for it, because its gone...but they don't tell you that's a requirement until day one of the academy

welp we will see when we get there

The deduction for school is $37.50 a week at Swift and if you get along well with them after 13 months then that charge gets reversed and they add $37.50 a week to each check for another 13 months.

good luck swift has the worst rep. as a training company. stay a year and then move on. I lasted 4 weeks as a student and quit as they did team training and I could not sleep when the truck was rolling and drove all night with no sleep. ended up in a er room with exhaustion and a ear infection. that was 1999 in Neenah wi terminal. I might add that half the students quit before finishing there 6 weeks with a trainer. stay for one year and move on.
