Thinking about becoming a truck driver? One thing I have noticed over the last several years on trucking boards is that newbies will check out sites like this one out and ask a lot of questions which is good. You have more tools now to make an informed decision. Years ago we did not have this option. What I see is some newbies get big eyed and hear what they want to hear and make a statement like "well; I have read 100 pages of warnings, but I am going there anyway." They seem to think that it will be different for them. My question is if you are going to go ahead and plunge anyway, why bother to research the company to begin with?

True you can not believe everything you read or hear, but if there is 100 people asked and 90 are happy there it is a good chance the company is decent. If there is 100 of them and 99 say run, hmmmm that ought to speak volume there. What I have noticed in the past is when one says well; I am going there anyway one of three things happen. 1) they will post this company is ate up and be another victim warning others to stay away.
    2) you will never hear from them again. (bailed they hate trucking now) or 3) they will start asking about other companies when they can figure out how to get out of the contract their soul is chained to.

It is almost like going to a doctor and saying what will happen if I hit myself in the head with this hammer? Well; it will hurt and cost you in the long run. Well doc all you are saying is negative. I am gonna try it anyway...... Doc, do you make house calls? I got a splittin headache.:biggrin_2556:

i agree with that; i think some of the bad stories are the drivers doing something wrong and the company letting them go , so they get on here bad mouthing the company for something that the driver did...

When lots and lots of drivers don't like the same company, that's worth noting. :biggrin_25514:

When a single driver runs all over the net, posting the same thing at lots of different forums slamming a company, that sends a completely different message. Must think we're stupid or something... :biggrin_25523:

Thanks for all the GOOD advice from all you experienced drivers. T'is much appreciated by this humble glasshoppa. :)

Here's something else to take into consideration.

How many drivers on on the boards praising the companies they work for because they like it there? Very, Very few, because for the most part they are out there making money not sitting in front of their computer looking for another company. There are many more disgrundled drivers out there on the boards wanting to slam companies then there are happy drivers. So when you see good and bad on a company take into consideration that there are always going to be more people readty to post the bad instead of the good. It's human nature to complain anyway. I learned in the Army a long time ago, most people aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.

your wright about that L.B.! Some poeple no matter what are never happy. they will complain on just about anything, heck some people may even complain about winning the lottery and having to go p/u a million dollor check. in any event trucking is not for everyone as everyone knows on here. my self I love it! i been doing it for almost 4 yrs now and it has it's days, but what job doesnt? let me know where the perfect job is and i will be the first one to go and apply.
i read so many post's about jb, swift, england, werner, most of which is bad, with very litte good about any of them, especially england. now i know we alll have to pull our time to get our experience, but you really have to research and see if you will make it at one of those cdl mills.
its just like notarps said, doctor gives you advice and if you still do it and wonder why, that is just plain stupidity. if i hear 100 complaints from drivers with one good comment from one other driver, heck you can be sure iam steering in the other direction with those kinda odds.
I think that people say "well it wont be like that for me over there I can make a difference", and maybe you can, but for me, i will take what every warning i get and move on. i rather do that that be back on here 2 weeks later saying how bad the company was after everyone warned me..JMO.

On the other hand, I stayed FAAAAR away from both Werner and Swift because of this site. Well actually, this site was one very large part of why, not the only reason. But since i've been out on my own I have talked to a couple of Swift drivers and they were happy. Said it really all depended on the dispatcher you got. Don't get me wrong, i'm not saying I think you should disregard other drivers' advice. But it is only one part of the equation, or at least it should be. But of course, why take an unnecessary chance? Like Notarps said, if 100 drivers say stay away, why go there? There's no shortage of jobs for drivers!
