There is a differance in oil pressure relief valves and bypass valves. Relief valves regulate pressure bypass vales bypass something, I.E. A stopped up oil filter dirty oil is an no oil. Or an oil cooler as in doesn't let cold oil thru cooler till operating temp a warm up function

On a detroit there is two sensors on the rear of block left side halfway up one Is oil temp (2 wire) one is ecm 3 wire. Guage is on other side of block. At any rate I am not there looking at it so I'm gonna wish him the best, hope it is a sensor but if he gets convinced of it blows filter off and loses a motor its not our problem, however takes the safe gamble and it just electrical well at least he didn't loose a motor.

mine only had the one, 3 wire that fed the ecm, and from that to the dash. I guess it's possible the wires split somewhere and lead to the dash and ecm separately. my main point about this was that it's more and more common for trucks to not have the separate manual gauge. hell, a lot of trucks don't even have a boost or pyro anymore.

Thanks for the input everyone. She's still going strong for me now, 400 miles since the spike and 250 to go. Fingers crossed but I feel if it was anything other than a sensor the truck would have codes or alarms going off

I don't know about a D13 yet, but on the 12's the oil pressure sensor is prone to failing. It will either show around 30lbs higher or very low oil pressure. Sometimes it will throw a code and maybe even put on the shutdown light. Most of the time they will run fine. Ran one for a month showing nothing.

I have a appointment on Tuesday at the Grand Rapids volvo. They said its most likely oil pressure sensor. But man these guys are busy they need to expand or even start working 24 hours a day. I hate how I can never get my truck on there for days. Must suck for the out of town trucks that have to wait days to get in

My oil pressure is reading 55-60psi parked. Should I be concerned?
