I have a 2000 model KW 900, air flow out the vents is very little, cleaned the filter & pulled out the blower & cleaned the heater core the best I could, no better. You can hear it make a noise when you switch from floor to vents like something is opening & closing but doesn't blow out floor vents very good either. I believe the fan is put together right & blowing in the right direction.
Not much air blowing out the vents.

Take a look at the squirrel cage. Sometimes the vanes fill up with dirt and won't move much air. If it still has the original blower motor, maybe it's due for a new motor.

Had a similar problem with very little air flowing to all/any outlets (defrost, dash, lower). Temporary "fix" was weird. If the lower dash panel, directly in front of the blower motor intake, was removed, all outlets would blow strong. If the panel was on, same problem as you're describing. It was permanently fixed while I was gone, by the shop. Lemme try to ask them what the actual airflow restriction specifically was. Might take a few days tho.
In any event, sounds like an airflow restriction on the intake side of the blower motor. If the airflow is only bad on one type of outlet (say, defrost or lower outlet), then it is likely a restriction in the blower outlet line to that particular outlet. -
Get the cat out of the dash!!!
No it sounds like a blower motor issue? I'm not an expert but this sounds like the issue here! Check to see if the switch cycles through all phases(low blow to high blow) to all of your different settings. I hope you get it fixed!KW Cajun Thanks this. -
luvtotruck is right. Before you check for any blower intake restriction, try to get access to/near your blower motor to see if it is running "up to speed".
Another thing I overlooked, on rare occasions the blower fan setscrew (or similar fan-to-shaft locking method) to the blower motor shaft breaks loose, allowing the blower motor shaft to spin, but the blower fan is not locked to the shaft, and thus turning slowly if at all. -
and might make a heck of a noise till the rough parts are filed down should we say!, I had a car, That my wife dropped a kleenex on the floor it eventually made its way up to the intake vent in the front of the passengers floor board and that thing gave us a fit, We looked into everything, and it was caught in there in such a manner that it must have had a flap or something because it was intermittent in the amount of air aloud through, We finaly took it to the dealer, I know first mistake they took it back about 45 minutes later they come to tell us the heater core needs replaced with the blower motor and then the system needs recharged, and a couple other things, I think a rear motor mount was in there too, I told them no we will take care of all of it. So I took the car on a trip to Las Vegas and went by a friends place, He had a young son full of vinegar and some other stuff that liked to work on cars and I had him look at it, he got down there and in 5 minutes he had the snot rag in hand and the system was fixed, I told him I said the dealer said these other things were wrong with it too, he came back in after about 20 minutes and said the system is right on in Freon and nothing else shows any ware! I Thanked him and on Monday when I got back to town, I called the dealer and got the tech to call me back, I ripped him a new one telling me all this stuff was wrong with my car when it wasn't and he wanted to get the labor hours for work that didn't need done!. End of story. -
Having the same problem:
1998 Kenworth T600 450k miles super 10
Finally got the blower motor working... but not getting any air movement out of any of the vents. Blend door actuators seem to be working (can hear them operate). After moving the fans the motor seems to runs smooth at a high rpm.
Anyone have any ideas? Anyone find a fix since the last post? -

Sounds like you guys need to install a new resistor. It's a small circuit board doesn't cost much. They get dirt and crud on them shorting out causing the fan to blow weakly. You have to replace them every few years. That or your blower motor is old and dragging.

Highway Hypnosis, that blower motor has a bad bearing and/or the squirrel cage is rubbing. See how it stops immediately when you take power away? It should spin freely to a stop. And that noise also tells me something is wrong.
As for airflow problems, my experience has been that it usually is caused by plugged up heater core and a/c evaporator core. Proper fix is to discharge the a/c and remove both the heater core and evaporator core and clean them thoroughly. I'm not talking about inside them, I'm talking about the fins and coils on the outside, where air passes thru.Expeditor, SAR and Highway Hypnosis Thank this.
