Ok Made a big boo boo in trip planning. Didn't notice it until I was setting my clock to wake up.
I have a load delivering in Dallas. I could of made it to Dallas truck stop yesterday if I wanted to, but didn't want to have to deal with lot lizards and jam packed truck stops. So I parked at the Terrell TA. My appointment is at 630 Monday morning. Going to a small company that makes food products. I have actually been parked since 11am yesterday. I did put some reefer fuel in a few hours later to make sure I wouldn't run out during my reset.
My plan was to wake up a 5 am and head on over to Dallas. But while setting my alarm I remembered. That my company is on mountain time. So I actually won't get a full reset until 6am cst. I believe I'm about 45miles away So If I did the reset. I would do my pretrip and leave at 6:15am. So of course I wouldn't make it by 6:30.
I have 13 hours right now left on my 70, and gain almost 3 hours at midnight. I seem to have some pretty good hours coming off, but I like to drive 13 hour days if I get the chance. Plus I feel its easier for planners to give you longer loads if you have lots of hours. I'll be picking up after this load going to denver. Here are my hours coming off
2:45<<<<coming off tonight that will be added to my 13 that's remaining on 70.
10:42
8:03
13:10
5:33
11:09
5:29
I just feel I wasted too much time to not get a 70 and rock and roll. I been with the company for over 3 years and they probably won't give me a hard time about being late. So what would you professionals do if you were in my shoes?
Trip planning mistake. B ontime and do recap hrs. Or 30 to 45mintues late fresh 70?

I'd be on the phone calling anybody that will answer it. And info them. Like your night dispatch and the place your delivering too
mje Thanks this. -
I don't know. Think I'm just going to play dum on this one. Spent way to much time on this short load anyway. These stupid new HOS bite me again. I'll just hold out my hand and let them slap it when I get to Denver Wednesday. I'll probably call the company in the morning. I'd probably be sitting out on the street until 7 or so anyway before they start unloading me. Might even do a 7 minute pre trip instead of a 15 to save time. I dunno decisions decisions.
mje Thanks this. -
Unless you can get it cleared beforehand, bite the bullet, show up on time, & run recap.
Dinomite, mje and Moosetek13 Thank this. -
look as you have 2 good maybe 3 good hours coming back.
mje Thanks this. -
since you fueled the reefer in the middle of your reset. your pretty much screwed anyways. i'm sure you can't fuel up OFF DUTY. next time fuel BEFORE starting your reset.
and how do you get to drive 13 hour days while the rest of us are confined to 11????richierich723 and mje Thank this. -
i believe he ment WORKED 13 hour days sounds like hes on elogs and otherwise this would not be an issue that elog would explode if he drove 13 hours lol
also i agree if u dropped down to on duty to fuel the reefer durring ur 34 ur screwed now u have to run the recap if u were on paper and only had to match the date on ur fuel not the exact time ud be golden always always always fuel before of after a breakmje Thanks this. -
You can drive as many hours in the day. If you start your day at midnight. Drive 11 hours take a 10 hr break you continue driving you can have close to a 14 hour day depending on how much you use. If you look at the pictures on my profile you can see days that I drive more then 11 hours. On the 21st I drove 12:55 minutes miles for the day was 776.
double yellow, paul_4lp and mje Thank this. -
Also I went onduty not driving about about 4 or 5 pm. To fuel reefer so still have plenty of time for the reset.

On time delivery ought to be your #1 priority. If you goofed you goofed. That doesn't mean you put it off on the customer. When doing a reset why park far away? Put that driving time before the reset and not after.
Looking at your recap which I don't understand why you aren't rounding off the times?... you have only one day you worked 13 hours. So thinking you'll run out of hours? It doesn't look like you run 13 hours constantly. You can still run at least another week with what you have. They call them rolling recaps because you only lose hours if you work more hours than the previous week. Hence you aren't backed in a corner unless you face gaining some serious hours like dropping them 5 hour days you have listed versus a long day coming. But by the time you come to dropping them you still probably would have a buffer of available hours.
What I would've done is fueled my reefer when I fueled my truck the last time especially if I'm planning a reset. How much fuel did you have? Could you have went to "cycle" if not there? I don't plan resets unless there is no other solution or it's readily available from sitting.
The only bad truck stops in Dallas are the ones on I-20. There are plenty of other places to stay. Truck stops are a convenience but not a necessity. I had my truck stocked where I could sit anywhere a week and be comfortable. I found more peace parking at places other than truck stops. Drivers today are attracted to truck stops like magnets. It's not the end of the world to park somewhere else. It's all in the mind.
What you are doing is a smart reset and not a necessary reset. Hardly an excuse to be late. Hopefully if on paper logs surely you can pull out the magic pen and shave an hour. If not do your reset next weekend or the one after.mje Thanks this.
