The new Cascadias have a setting in the ECM for the brake lights to come on with the jakes. At one company I drove for they would come one, and at the one I'm with now, they don't.

OnGaurd is the devil! At least, if its faulty....like mine. Mine likes to lock up going under overpasses and street signs.

OnGuard was the program designed by companies that detail interiors of trucks. Its designed to activate at random times to spill coffee all over the inside of your cab
Brickwall and flightwatch Thank this. -
I drive a cascadia and it engages the brake lights when the jakes are in operation.

Eowyn Thanks this.

i think the jake setting might be a ecm setting. most will come off when you let off the gas. but i drove a couple of dump trucks that didn't come on till the brakes were pressed.
i have to get a CEL dianosed when i get home. i'm gonna ask if it's possible to have brake lights with the jakes. nice thing to have since i'm not ALWAYS using my brakes. defenitly going to have the jakes turned on in the lower gears. don't know what nimrod had them turned off. jakes only work in the highest 3 gears. never really thought about the lower gears till i got stuck in CO with that construction 20 miles long down a 6% grade and all that traffic. riding the brake pedal all the way through. -
My old Pete was set so that they didn't come on until over 35mph....Cabbage was oh so much fun the first few times I went down it. In the winter, fully loaded, at night. Course, having done it so many times now, I have no problem flying down at 55 making Vrooming noises and sympathy snickering at the guys crawling down. My first trip down a grade was made at 19 mph, stomping the brakes every time the truck in front of me did. Scary stuff for me. I did not even realize I was riding down it with no jakes at all, I just assumed I had selected too high of a gear and they weren't "holding" me back like they should. Poor little rookie...lol. I'm sure the trucks around me where going by saying WTF is she doing?!
Brickwall Thanks this. -
I do get tired of mine coming on anytime I let off the gas. Keep telling myself to get the ecm changed but i still didn't do it. Every time I'm going down a downgrade other drivers are surprised that my brakes didn't start smoking. It's bad enough I look ten years younger than my age I don't need a another reason for others to think I'm a rookie. Other drivers should do there homework before they assuse I'm trying to burn my brakes out or use a runaway ramp.

2013 Pete 386. No lights. And I've not seen lights come on on other trucks simlply when the Jake is on.
