I've been driving for almost a year and I can't seem to find a good company to drive for. Every company I have been with has lied about the 3 major things home time, pay, and miles. I thought I would get on here and get everyone elses opinions and stories about what companies are good to work with. I know everything isn't going to be perfect in a truckers life but I would like to at least find a company that tells minimal lies. I am also looking to get into a flatbed position and have done some looking into TMC & Maverick. Can anyone give me advice on where to go or look at going?

Since you mentioned flat-bedding I'm assuming you don't mind hands-on work. If not , then depending on where you are located why not try the food service folks. I worked for a company (GSF) doing that for over 30 years , retiring in 2011. Made a great living and was never( read rarely) gone over night. Only laid over when I bid to take the longer runs...but that was only deliver the product , hit the motel take my ( 8 ) only had to to take 8 back then and head home. If you have a really good safety record and live close to one of their DC's give GSF a call.

Thanks for all the information so far. I live in Mooresville, IN which is basically Indianapolis. I would like to be home at least on the weekends.

If you have one years experience and a clean record you can pick your 1 year company if you are in their hiring area (lanes).

Take your time and do your homework on here. You have to find your niche in the industry which might take several years to accomplish. Don't be stuck on flatbed because that's how you learned. Keep an open mind and find the money.

Bigger companies hire professional recruiters who know how to throw a sales pitch. You are just a notch on his performance record. Don't get sucked in on fancy ads and false promises. Look at smaller companies from 10-100 drivers. Usually you get better treatment at them size companies. If they have a billboard or are in one of them job driving books they are most likely cattle driving for drivers. The same with Craigslist you'll find that couple driver OO who pays peanuts under the table to avoid benefits.

Look in your local paper or nearest big town, look on CareerBuilder.com, look at trucks that deliver to your factories... and when you find a possibility talk with their drivers or ask for info on here.

Beware craigslist job postings. Always apply directly to a company website or call them directly. There cr scams to get all your personal info for background check, but your identity is stolen instead.

I came across 3 companies I've never heard of that offer reasonable hometime and sound like they might be a good. Has anyone heard of the following companies or worked for them? Ruan Transportation, Fraley & Schilling, or Bertis Carlson Trucking. Ruan I've heard of before and they have a local position available. Please let me know if anyone had any experience with these companies. I want a drivers view not a recruiter trying to sell me.

even thou i dont agree with "condo cruiser " not all of them are that way, but to the point, in that area TMC and Maverick are good companies that even thou bigger can get you home often once you are done with your training to learn how to flatbed. My company could do that to but in the indy area i could only get you home 3 out of 4 weekends a month after your training, good luck flatbedding, and remember it will be what you make of it.
