    Morning,

Does anyone know about this school?

They have offered to train me in exchange for working for PAM transport for a year

I went to Drivers Solutions School in Indianapolis with the promise I would work for PAM for one year. I was dropped by PAM for undisclosed reasons. They wouldn't man up and give me one. I was then picked up by Swift. I went through the school. My fifth week in the school was pretty much brought to their knees as 23 or 26 trucks were deemed unworthy for the road by the DOT, including the trucks used to test at state. In one instance a friend of mine failed his test because the power steering went out on him in the middle of his maneuver and he couldn't get it to work right. When he told the testing people they said that it was not their truck and they didn't care and to finish the maneuver. I tested and didn't pass because I didn't have the experience they promised me. The times I tested they told me that they would get me on the road to practice before I tested again and that never happened. Now that was my experience. There were others that had better experiences then I did. BTW since I didn't pass I owe them money, so keep that in mind as well. IMHO you are better off getting the county to pay for schooling through the WIA program and going to a private school or community college, that is what I ended up doing and succeeded. You get to choose what company you want to go with at that point. Hope this helps.

Appears the problems you encountered were with SWIFT and not DS. A friend of mine is going through DS right now and they didn't make him -any- promises.

Nope my issues is actually with the school. Not Drivers Solutions. They are just the middle man.

Yea, that's what I meant by saying not with DS (Drivers Solutions). Like you, I've heard both good and bad.

Pretty sure driver solutions sponsors this site. I applied to them a couple years back and they told me pretty much the same thing they told you, I could do the training and then work for pam or usa truck for 1 year and not have to pay for training. Neither of those companies really interested me so I went another route. From what I could tell, driver solutions is a middle man for companies that pay in the <30cpm range.

I went to the school in asheboro. Its actually called fta (future truckers or america). They teach all the basics and do a really good job. Try to get bill to drive with. He's really funny and is a good teacher. I don't know how pam is but I went with usa and did my year and don't owe ds any money. Sometimes I wanted to quit but paying 2000 back instead of 6000 was worth it. Good luck!

I don't know that ds actually has any schools, they just work w/ them. The school they wanted me to go to was called a1, they send you to the school closest to where you live.

There are training companies that offer free training if you stay 1 year and still pay pretty well. I know Prime inc. starts at 42 cpm while Pam/USA/swift start at around half that and still charge for training.

If you decide to go a different route, try Sampson County CC. Their program is just $425 and the includes the physical, permit, tuition and books. Its a Mon- Thurs, 11 week, 350 hour program. Cheaper to go there and get a hotel room!

Johnston County CC is about $1000 and is an 8 week program. Its Mon-Fri, 11 hrs a day

This way, you are not on the hook with any company for a year.... Work for who you want.

I am headed to Johnston County CC starting in Oct.
