    Howdy,

I want some non bias advice figured this is the best place to get it. First off I'm 22 from central WI. gramps and dad drove truck local, feed mill, tri axle end dump, milk truck a little hopper bottom. My brother hauls also, cement powder, fly ash sand, hes got a truck with a blower system on it. I was the one that wanted to go out and do something on my own and different, I went to school for welding. I currently work for a shop that build process system tanks, so any think from beer, to peanuts, medical food and industrial tanks. I've been out of school a little over a year and I knew a fair amount about welding before I went in there. When I was in school I ran yard horse for Menards. they had volvo's from Fedex with M11 Cummins, Sterlings from CCX With Detroits and some older L8000 fords with 8.3 cummins. they had a freightshaker with a C12 also. 8's 9' and 10 speeds, with a super 10 also. after school I went to work for a local guy, two brothers own a large farm and they do trucking also. one brother handles milking and the cattle the other handles fields and trucking. I did alot of weld repair in the parlor and holding barns, I drove a little bit of semi for them when they would chop corn or hay got to work on the trucks a fair amount also.

Well heres where I sit, theres an issue at work I've brought up and the higher ups dont want to deal with it, I'm not going in to great detail on it because its a long story. So I finally told my boss to tell me who I have to talk to in order to have something happen and I'll talk to them or else I'll turn in my two weeks. Tomorrow I have a big meeting and needless to say Fits gonna hit the Shan.

I have an hour and a half drive every day to go to work,if I drive home, I have a crew cab dodge and a crew cab ford and I sleep in the back if the cab alot. The highlight of my drive is seeing all the dolled up semi's on the road.

I take home roughly 1700 a month where I work now. I have 2 kids to help take care of that arnt mine they are my girl friends. Its tough with what I make, I understand I can sell stuff but I talked with my brother and he said he gross's between 800 and 1800 a week depending on what he has to haul and the loads. What I want to know is what would you make if you only ran like with in 3 states hauling flat bed IE. WI MN IA? more or less what could I make as a driver? O/Op vs hauling for a company truck

    thanks for the help

    Shine.

You should be able to make about 40,000 your first year pulling a flatbed. Try a larger company like TMC or Maveric..get a CDL they will train you. They want new drivers and the larger companies will get you home most weekends. But, my advice, if you have a young kids and a girl you want to be with, find a local driving job. Otherwise, go for it.

If I were you, I'd stick to welding. At the right shop, or job site, you can make decent money and be at the house.

Would you g/f relocated? If so, stick to welding and move to Texas. You would be home everynight and get to support your family.

Don't mind me, my solution to everything is to move to Texas.

If you are in central Wisconsin then Roehl might be your best bet if you don't already have a CDL. I doubt TMC, Maverick or Melton is hiring out of central Wisconsin. Flatbed companies off the top of my head in the area. Prochnow out of Medford, Pioneer in Merrill, Roehl and Draxler in Marshfield, Handy out in Warrens. Elite out of Merrill has a regional program, but they only do dry vans. So who do you weld for? A&B, Sprinkman, Apache or Walker?
